Dirty Jokes

I recieve many many jokes everyday in my email from friends and aquaintances. I suppose they get them from a website somewhere or from their friends via email. And of course we have all been told thousands of them during our lives. There must be a million jokes in the world. So my question is…who writes or makes them up? I have never been privy to the genesis of a clever/dirty joke or any kind of joke for that matter. I can hardly imagine making up even the most simple of funny/dirty jokes. I know that there are professional joke writers in the world that work for television, radio etc. But most of the dirty ones I have heard and get in my email would never get on TV or Radio. The creators of the jokes of the world both good and bad are shadowy figures as far as I am concerned. I wonder if most of them began as stories and evolved into jokes? Even if so, that still doesn’t explain who makes them up? Anyone got some info on this subject?
