Disagree with liberals and you'll get it....

I’ve noticed that liberals tend to have a low opinion of those who disagree with them. Either they think you’re an idiot or you’re mean spirited. 24 years of living has taught me that if a perception comes up repeatedly then the subject must be doing SOMETHING to contribute to that perception.

So liberals. Are all conservatives mean spirited or stupid?

Marc

No, but the few that are are very loud and tend to drown out their more rational brethren.

Yes. Um…no. I mean yes. I don’t know. Leave me alone!

Generally, I’ve discovered that when * ad hominem * begins, it means that they’ve run out of “rational” arguments and that you’ve gotten to them. So consider it an honor to be insulted by mental inferiors

Yes. Every last one. And the biggest problem is… they look just like you and me, except they wear hats.

Uh… I hate to break this to everybody, but mean spirits and stupidity aren’t traits that are unique to a single political stance. I’m sure you’ll find an equal percentage of liberals who are mean spirited and stupid… they just cover it up by being the first to make accusations of that calibre.

Again, that’s a trait that’s univeral among all political parties. It’s a smart conservative/liberal/moderate who makes an effort to push through the crap to find the more rational people.

I agree with friedo. Give me a freaking break, Marc.

What is it you want me to break? If others can start ridiculous topics about conservatives then why can’t I start one about liberals?

Marc
<everyone stop reading except for Gadarene>

You still there?

Good.

Personally I find the labels of liberal and conservative to be almost meaningless. I’ve been called a conservative because of my stance on gun control, economics, and certain government programs. I’ve been called a liberal because of my stance on homosexuals and the war on drugs.

Honestly I’ve seen more of the liberal side of disagreement simply because of the company I kept in college. But in real life I don’t think liberals are any worse then conservatives. In fact I think they’re more alike then they’ll admit.

So, in other words, you’re just trolling?

Gee, that’ll show 'em.

They eat their young. They slither from under rocks and conspire to impose their immoral diktats on our shining and innocent youth. They seethe with hatred for all that is good and noble, and plot to poison our Republic! If they have thier way, all is lost! Only in us, the palladins of righteousness and the paradigms of virtue, is there any hope! Awaken, citizens!

Soon will come the reckoning, and they go to the wall!

Especially trolls. They go first.

If there were a Mean Party, they’d have my vote. We need people in Washington who are going to push for more taking of candy from babies, knocking over of old ladies and the teasing of puppies. I want a president who will poke other heads of state in the eye at every opportunity. Each State of the Union address should begin with the ten most noteworthy senators getting kicked in the shin. I want a president who won’t hesitate to beat up a Supreme Court justice and take his lunch money.

Conservatives aren’t mean spirited. They’re all a bunch o’ pansies.

Marc:

I just think that there are a hell of a lot more substantive things to talk about without you constructing a gigantic strawman to take shots at. I mean, it seems as pointless as me posting the following:

“I’ve noticed that conservatives tend to have a low opinion of anyone who displays compassion or is less wealthy than them. Either they think you’re lazy or weak. 25 years of living has taught me that unsupported generalizations about a class of people reflect more on the person doing the generalizing. So does this mean that conservatives who generalize about the compassionate and the poor just don’t know how to think properly?”

See how silly that is? I’d much rather stick to actual topics of debate, without resorting to manufacturing a point of conflict for no good reason.

RugbyMan:

I’d consider that irony. Generally, if you know what ad hominem means, you’re skilled enough at debate not to have to use it yourself. Guess there are exceptions to every generalization, hmm?

SPOOFE:

Uh… I hate to break this to you, but Marc’s the only one who’s intimated in this thread that conservatives are mean-spirited and stupid. You’re assuming facts not in evidence, and follow it up by making accusations of your own. Real nice, man.

I just want you to know that this cracked me up. Thanks!

I want a president who will throw up on other heads of state. Preferably while on mood-altering drugs.

How many US Presidents have become verbs in foreign languages? In Japan, so I understand, busharu is a verb meaning “to hurl, the technicolor yawn”!

Probably in some foreign land, guys hint to their sweetie that they could go for “a nice bit o’ Clinton”.

Nudge, nudge, wink wink.

In my own personal experience, I’ve noticed an almost one to one correlation between someone using the phrase “the liberals” and my thinking they’re an idiot. Ergo, people who generalize are stupid.

Oh, and Tymp, that was freakin’ hilarious! If you run for President, I’ll vote for you. “Vote Mean.”

Conservatives? Why, some of my best friends…

   You’re my new best friend!

Does this mean I’m allowed to kick Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms in the shin and call them old farts?

To quote from the actual card game Lunch Money, “LOOK at me when I’m hitting you!”

Esprix

Heck yeah, Esprix! If you’re a registered Meanie, all annoying and/or humiliating abuse of public figures is fair play.

Giraffe: “Vote Mean” is going to make for a damn fine bumper sticker. Thanks!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to give Ehud Barak his afternoon noogie / wedgie combo.

Er, Marc, didn’t it cross your mind that to start what’s essentially a trolling thread devoted to useless baseless generalizations, simply in order to draw attention to other baseless generalizations which have already been strongly criticized in other threads, might come across as being a little…oh, I don’t know, stupid? Not to mention rather…mean-spirited?

(Hey Tymp! Have you considered huddling with disaffected Naderites and forming a “Mean Green” coalition?)
