Kaiser-Darrin cars had doors that slid into the front fenders, and GM made some station wagons that had disappearing tailgates.
While they don’t address mine and your question about safety standards, they did say all structural integrity was maintained. The author said new “hard points” were established within the body structure so road clearance is maintained too.
My concern is the weather blowing in that large opening. Where I live the entire cabin would be filled with snow upon one use. And a vehicle splashing by a puddle would be devastating to your new suit. I like to hide behind the door occasionally.
