Disgusting foods your parents ate

[QUOTE=AuntiePam]
It took 4 pages for someone to mention my other childhood treat? Were yours homemade? I’ve only had them from a jar, Hormel, I think. (Is there a part of the pig they didn’t use?) The best parts were the chewy rind and the lean part, the ham. I never developed a taste for the fat layer, probably because of the consistency.

Not as far as I know, at least while we were in the US. However, when my Oma came to visit us from Germany EVERYTHING was cooked from scratch, so there’s a real possibility they were then. I don’t remember them being cooked though. Thanks be to all that is good.

While we lived in Germany, we visited my Oma and Opa often. Everything was farm fresh and cooked from scratch. My Oma ate the goose or swan egg I “rescued” from along the Altmutahl river. I was very heartbroken and angry with Oma. Oma just saw it as good food.

Tuna fish sandwiches with cheese.

Was it a particularly nasty variety of cheese? Or was it actual slices of fish versus tuna salad? Because this seems fairly normal to me.
