Dishes/food combinations you invented?

I don’t know about “invented”, but I don’t remember seeing very many other people eat either of:

Pepperoni, Extra Cheese, and Pineapple Pizza (ham and pineapple, yes, but never pepperoni)

Cube up a turkey breast, some ham, and some Swiss cheese, and microwave in a bowl for 2-3 minutes (occasionally, leave the cheese out until the last minute, and add some spinach as well). I got this from eating ham, turkey, and Swiss crepes.

pineapple and pepperoni and sausage is my favorite pizza.

I made this up a long time ago and was quite pleased with the results. I submitted it to allrecipes, but they never reviewed it for some reason.

Magic Fried Corn

Ingredients

Kernels from 4 ears of sweet corn or one 12oz bag frozen sweet corn, thawed.
1 Tbs unsalted butter.
5-7 anchovy filets packed in olive oil, drained.
Cracked black pepper to taste.

Directions

Melt butter in a fry pan over medium heat.
Add anchovy filets to pan and use a wooden spoon to mash them until they melt into the butter.
Add the corn kernels to the pan, and stir to coat with the anchovy butter.
Add cracked black pepper to taste, and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until corn is heated through.

Hot pasta tossed with freshly chopped raw onion, tomato, Capsicum, garlic (basically whatever from my garden herbs too) cream, salt nd pepper and a touch of nutmeg.

Chili made with cinnamon in addition to the traditional spices (chili, of course; cayenne; cumin; oregano). I often substitute kabocha or other squash, or sweet potatoes for the more traditional beans. Now I do it because it’s paleo-friendly, but I started doing it years back to prevent my guts from making divorce-inducing gas. Seriously, the combination of spices, meat, and beans usually made such nasty-smelling horribleness come out of my colon that it would sometimes make even me gag.

Apples with cheese. You can lightly brine the apples and sprinkle with basil too. Either “plain” or spiced is yummy.

White-trash cooking from my family:
macaroni and cheese with sliced hot dogs mixed in
BELTs; Bacon Egg Lettuce Tomato sandwiches, with fried ketchup

Which reminds me, I’ve been thinking about starting a White Trash Cooking thread to share some of those family recipes. So here it is.

Something I invented when I was a kid. I was a fat little piglet–(Hey still am, but taller!). And my aunt that watched me asked me to go make myself a sandwich to eat for lunch, b/c she was pregnant and exhausted. I went in her kitchen and couldn’t decide between a cheese and pickle sandwich or a pbj. So I put all four together. I LOVED IT! And she was happy, b/c I’d beg to make my own lunch, and so she could rest more.

I grew out of it at some point when we moved from that state, but hmmm, I always have those four ingredients around, I’ve noticed. I sense an experiment this week!

Fried ketchup?

Filet of sole rolled around a sprig of thyme, a sprinkle of salt and white pepper and a good sized squeeze of half a blood orange, and a small 1 tbsp pat of butter wrapped in foil or in parchment and coked for about 20 minutes. Great served with a rice pilaf and a small tossed salad. Doesn’t really have a name, but since it has blood orange it should be maltaise of some sort

Damn it!

Yep. Follow the white trash cooking link.

Cheesy cheddar cassava-
Bought some cassava farina(think like cream of wheat) on a whim to try from the store, package advised adding sugar and cinnamon to make a breakfast cereal.:dubious:

I followed it and OMG it was a hideous mix up of flavors, I couldn’t eat it. But I noticed the cassava by itself had a nice deep nutty flavor(heh he said…).

Anyway I started over and this time I added a pinch of salt and some sharp cheddar cheese and added more farina. Ended up with a delicious nutty and savory side dish that I enjoy to this day!

After fried ice cream – which is quite good – I’m not surprised by fried anything.

What are potstickers?

Curry Chicken with Roofing Nails.

It’s probably for the best that I don’t cook often.

It’s a dumpling filled with meat/veggies. Believe it’s Chinese. Really good!

Ahhh…thank you! I call them won tons and indeed make them myself, either to eat alone or in a chicken broth with veggies (as pho).

Eeeeeelicious. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just wanted to revive this because I just had one of your Thai dogs and thought it very good. I used Nathan’s and fried them in a bit of vegetable oil. The sriracha mellows right out in this combo, but adds a lot of flavor. It will be in the rotation in the future.

Gyoza- they’re Japanese.

Last week I took about 8 strips of bacon and cooked them in a deep skillet. Then I removed the bacon to dry on some paper towels. To the hot bacon grease I added about a pound of Brussels sprouts sliced in half, and 4-5 small potatoes I had cooked to tender in the microwave and then cut into 1-inch cubes. Added salt and pepper and a little bit of cayenne.

Stirred a bit to get everything seared in the bacon grease then poured it all into a baking dish with the crumbled up bacon. Baked at 400 until the potatoes started to brown.

It was yummy and my kids ate it up. Let me repeat: my KIDS ate BRUSSELS SPROUTS and LOVED THEM.

Aww, now that I Google it I see potatoes/Brussels sprouts/bacon recipes on several sites. Oh well.
