dishwasher turkey

I heard a new one the other day. At Thanksgiving dinner at my brother in laws, two friends said they cooked turkey in a dishwasher! Put it in, and ran through the cycles, and then took it out and browned it in the oven. ??? Anyone out there tried this? and survived?

What detergent did he use?

I’ve heard of smaller items like a Salmon being cooked in the dishwasher, but nothing as big as a turkey. A average 12lb turkey takes what, 3-4 hours in an oven at 350? No way could a 1 hour dishwasher cycle at perhaps, 175 cook a turkey.

I call bullshit.

I hope they browned the turkey long enough to reach 180 degrees F in the thigh (that’s the USDA recommendation).

Like bernes I’ve had fun passing on the recipe for dishwasher salmon. And I had a crazy cousin in Alaska who actually did the salmon thing and say it works.
Please be careful of playing around with fowl.
This sounds like the beginning of a Thanksgiving UL that could be dangerous.

Is it true that you can cook/bake a turkey in the dishwasher?
