That’s what begat Rush Limbaugh’s success, and when he hit it big, broadcasters began handing out microphones to seemingly every belligerent asshat with a grievance. From that point on, it was no longer enough to simply agree to disagree with your political opposites. Now, your political opponents had to be treated as evildoers who want to destroy America.

I remember this era very clearly. I was working for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board at the time and every store had that vile mutant spewing his vicious dogma.

Even back then it was unsettling to hear.

And even more unsettling to watch so many people fall under his spell.

The audience that laps it up unquestioningly and with gusto … already thinks everything left of Fox News is FAKE NEWS.

Indeed-- heck, even local news that is nowhere near about Trump (like local sports and weather) is also fake according to these sorts of people, which would make it seem that the only real news to these people is right-wing opinion channels that praise Trump till the cows come home and have him as a focus 24/7/365.
