Disingenuous argument and those who agree

Fr0&!

Are you pitting me for a months-dead thread, and in doing so failing to even articulate what your issue is? And failing to describe the stated purpose of that thread?

But if I am less disingenuous it follows that I am more ingenious, does it not? Phonetically, at least.

How about cheese eating surrender monkey?

If everyone around you online and in real life angers you for not accepting that you are right and they are wrong, chances are the problem is you.

I’m not a frog bowdlerizer
Nor a frog bowdlerizer’s son
But I’ll be bowdlerizing frogs
'Til the frog bowdlerizing’s done

I just wish I could’ve seen the OP’s non-tl;dr version.

I feel for you @BigT.

But, we all know it will get you no where.

Just roll with it. They’ll play their games, get their jollies.

It’s really is a stupid way to discuss things.

(And since it’s me, beckdawrek, we don’t need any beck-thread crap here. I’ll not respond, no one wants to read it. Grow up)

I guessed you missed this,

AFAICT you’re one of the posters he’s complaining about.

I saw it. I don’t care.

I know I’m right in this one. I’ve been done the same way.

(Clipping, again. I see)

Here we go …

So funny how predictable you are.

What? I added something.

But enough of the very, very, very, boring Beck show . . . unless you want to provide actual examples (with links) of whatever the fuck this thread is supposed to be about?

When I was younger, I encountered a number of people that seemed to believe and I’m pretty sure did believe that saying something contradictory to their opponent refuted that opponent’s argument. I satirized that POV here. It’s a midwit perspective, sad to say.

I speculate that as those sorts get older they learn… not to be so confrontational. But I doubt whether they improve their understanding of argument and rhetoric substantially.

You’re just saying that because you’re angry. Try to calm down.

See? Easy to do. I think adding a piece of false advice is a nice touch and adds realism.

No you didn’t.

I think I get what BigT is talking about. When emotions get high its easy to make cheap shots that strawman the other side or hyperbolize the situation as a way to vent their feelings. These can be cheered on by other posters who share their attitude. At that point its not so much about making a logically consistent argument as making a show. Now if this was transferred to say an academic context where poor arguments were penalized even those posters who made the arguments would be able to go through and count all of the logical fallacies. But this is a message board where social validation and catharsis is at least as important as precise correctness, so sloppy arguments may produce positive feedback then well reasoned ones.

All things considered I think that its better on the SD message board where precise correctness at least some value in the rest of the internet it seems to value it not at all. But there it is pervasive here to. I think at one time or another everone has done it, I know for a fact that I have. Particularly on the Trump and Republicans snark threads, which are filled with poor reasoning, that is cheered on, because its fun, and you know pretty much everyone here is on your side and only very rarely challenge you.

On the other hand I think complaining abouit it is akin to loudly protesting that everyone is going 75 on the freeway when the speed limit is clearly posted at 65! I think its one of those things you just have to accept. You can point it out when you see it, but protests fall on deaf ears you just accept it and move on.
