I happened to glance down at the Systray (Win XP SP2) and saw an icon I didn’t recognize. It was the Disk Cleanup icon. I don’t have Disk Cleanup set to run. Why would it do so? I did a virus check yesterday and everything was clean.
BTW, I was running TMPGEnc DVD Author at the time and ran out of disk space creating the output file of a DVD I was authoring. I wonder if this triggered it?
It almost certainly did. When you run out of space Windows will automatically pop up with a warning to that effect and give you options as to how you might rectify the problem by cleaning out various areas: Recycle bin, temporary internet files, etc.
