Disney acquires Pixar: fucking terrific

So you want to make it less profitable for them to make movies you enjoy?

Can someone explain the ‘sticks and stones’ joke? Is he saying it’ll have a really crappy budget with no special effects?

So how do you feel about the impending WB/UPN & CBS merger?

But, if they’re making movies I enjoy, wouldn’t I want to encourage them, so they’d make more movies I enjoy?

I don’t know what technology will be used to fight World War III but World War IV will be fought with rocks and sticks.

From what I’ve read, Disney’s acquisition won’t really change anything except establish Disney as the official permanent distributor of Pixar’s work. Disney had always been the distributor but on a movie-by-movie basis, then they started to throw their weight around and made demands that ruffled Pixar’s feathers, so Pixar said “see ya- we don’t need ya”.

Disney realized they screwed up and were about to lose out on a goldmine of distribution revenue, so they made Pixar a deal they couldn’t refuse- which I have to assume is satisfactory to the Pixar leadership. I’d think that Pixar would insist on complete creative control over their work, and like others have pointed out, Steve Jobs can be very influential.

And no, I don’t have cites for any of this, since it’s info I’ve picked up from numerous articles over the years and I’m not about to spend hours searching the archives.

I think it’ll change a lot actually, and I actually agree with that slashdot article in that I think it gives Pixar more power over Disney than it gives Disney over Pixar.

Telemark, got it right, but forgot to add that is an Albert Einstein quote.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

Bambi 3. The movie that had to be made.

So . . . what, does Bambi show up in South Central LA to visit forest justice on the scumbags who whacked his mom? That might be worth seeing, unless his idiot nephew Scrappy tags along.

You guys realize what has been created here, don’t you? Very shortly, people in Cafe Society will be discussing the latest animated release…from Dixar.

No, Teh Dixxar.

Not Pixie?

Bite your tongue!

:stuck_out_tongue:

We’re already seeing the upside of this merger:

I was truly frightened of what Disney’s crappy-sequel-to-beloved-movies factory was churning up for Toy Story 3. After seeing the beauty of a well done sequel by the original team (TS2), I couldn’t believe they’d handed the franchise over to someone else.

If the studio caught fire, would the result be Pixie dust?

Toy Story 3 axed
That was quick.

Hilarious. Jobs gets the board seat, plus he is now the single largest shareholder, AND they paid him $7 billion?

Check out the big brain on Steve!

Yes! Yes! CHECK IT OUT, as you so whimsically put it, yes.

I’m going to point out Robert Cringeley’s take on it. He basically said that Jobs had most of his wealth tied up in a highly non-liquid asset (Pixar), and hence by selling it to Disney, he’s wealth is now much more liquid. Interesting take, at least.

There may be hope yet.
