Disney+ News

FWIW I am assuming it will have ads. They have not said one way or the other but the price point suggests it will have ads. Maybe a more expensive tier without them.

Also I saw there was another Marvel series announced: What If… Based on a Marvel comic where they do alternate histories. The first episode is what if Agent Carter got the super solider serum.

I’m very intersted in the bundle. I love the concept of Disney+ and would not hate ESPN+ in the least. I could take or leave Hulu.

All “Simpsons,” because 20th Century Fox, right?

So what about “King of the Hill” or “Married With Children” will they be included as well?

I just hope they put some of the Disney classic fun movies on there:
Snowball Express
Swiss Family Robinson
Chitty Chitty
Parent Trap
Don Knotts movies 1-50
The Full Herbie collection!
Shaggy Dog

There are a lot of fun movies (not masterpieces) that I would pay the yearly fee to view again. I went to Scarecrow Video a couple of months back and was amazed at both how many I forgot and how many even they didn’t have. Everyone focuses on Song of the South, but there are many other B and C grade enjoyable movies that I have been saying for years that Netflix should get streaming rights to.

For that price I would probably sign up for a month or two to watch The Mandalorian, and rewatch some Clone Wars. Early seasons of The Simpsons would be great too.

Hulu only has the most recent season of The Simpsons, but it has the entire runs of both those shows.

I doubt they’ll pillage too much content from Hulu to beef up Disney+. It seems like they’re mostly focused on stripping stuff from Netflix. I expect they’ll remove all of the DisneyXD stuff but leave the adult-oriented Fox television programming.

Their plan is for existing Hulu customers to also get Disney+, not to nudge them into abandoning the one to go to the other.

My main hope is that they make Disney+ an add-on for Hulu so that I don’t need to deal with a whole new platform. Because at this price point and level of content I’ll almost certainly be getting it.

I wonder if they’ll have the Disney cartoon series. DuckTales? Darkwing Duck? Kim Possible?

So what I’ve heard in the newspaper and on the radio is that Disney thinks they could have 60-90 million global subscribers in the next five years or so. At seven bucks a month, that’s half a billion in monthly revenues. But of course in some countries, people will probably pay less, so figure 250 million each month, or about six billion a year. Not bad.

I second RikWriter’s comment. I don’t get it either.

Disney now owns controlling interest in Hulu so hopefully they won’t remove much if anything from them.

I’m pretty sure it means, “I don’t want to pay $6.99 a month for Disney’s streaming service, and if that’s the only way I can watch any of their movies in the future, I guess they don’t want me to watch their movies in the future.”

At the intro, Kevin Mayer, the Disney+ guy, said no ads, no free-with-ads tier. “For Disney, these brands at this time, no ads is the right call.” Interpret that as you want.

The most important question is not “how much will it cost” but “how many simultaneous logins can be used at that price?”

If that’s what’s being said, it’s wrong. I expect Disney to still release movies in theaters and air TV shows on its broadcast and cable channels, and they will then later be available on DVD and Blu-ray. Only after that will they be available on the Disney+ streaming service. Note that they do plan to produce some movies and TV shows for the streaming service, and those won’t be in theaters or on TV. And also note that other streaming services like Netflix produce movies and TV shows that are only available via their streaming services, so what’s the difference here?

$6.99 is actually cheaper than I would have guessed (and surprised there is a offline option)
Anyone want to start a pool for how long it will STAY $6.99?

That was my first thought as well - but then again, it was also my first thought when WWE Network first announced that it would be $9.99/month and include all PPVs for free. I thought for sure it would go up to $14.99/month within two years ($9.99/month plus an extra $60/year to make up for the money lost by not charging that much for WrestleMania), but give Vince McMahon credit; it’s still only $9.99/month.

As for whether or not it will have ads, what sense would having ads make - Disney already has channels that have ads, and don’t charge you for them. I remember when Disney Channel originally didn’t have any ads - and charged $10/month (and this was thirty years ago).

I want to know if they’re going to have multiple languages available for their animated movies. That would be awesome. (I have a bunch of Disney movies in Korean but they’re all on VHS.)

I think I’ve read that they plan to offer this service worldwide (although not immediately) so I expect multiple language options.

The first year, but they would be well advised to announce in advance that they are keeping it at that rate for at least the first two years.

I think if they told me it would stay for two years, I’d sign up. After I take a free trial and check the content they have.

JFTR, My copy of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is labeled as an MGM release.

I can’t understand why so many people think “The Old Bamboo” is a Disney song (even if it WAS written by the Sherman Bros.).
