Disney on Ice experiences

I’m looking to take my girlfriend to Monsters Inc. on Ice this weekend. The only thing stopping me is I’m not sure it’ll be the fun yet romantic night I’m hoping for.

I was wondering if any of you have gone to such an event without children? Will we be able to enjoy the show, or will it mostly be little kids being little kids? And, having never been to a show on ice, what’s the temperature in the room? Would we have to dress in layers to stay warm? Any other comments or suggestions for going to see Disney on Ice? For reference, we’re both college students with a good sense of humor and a desire to retain our youth.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

It won’t be uncomfortably cold in the arena. When we took the kids to Disney on Ice, I wore a light sweater, and I had to take my coat off (it was heavy). If you wear a light jacket, you should be fine.

I think Monsters Inc. on Ice is a fun date idea. We saw the jungle stuff (Jungle Book, Tarzan, Lion King etc. all in one production) last year, and there were quite a few college age couples there without kids. Of course, if you don’t like kids, don’t go. I found that the kids attending the show were quite well behaved (including my kids). I was probably more impressed with the show than my 8 year old son. But, you know, he’s almost 9 now, so he’s pretty jaded

Have fun! We’re seeing Princesses on Ice in a few weeks (my older son is Autistic and obsessed with the Disney babes).

Not sure that this is quite what you are looking for, but…

I took my 4 year old daughter to see the Lilo & Stitch on Ice. 2 free tickets, row 9, she’s wired! Get some cotton candy, a light-up toy, and the kid is over the moon! Finally, the show starts, and she’s fascinated. Not a peep from her. The magic of Disney captivates her.

Not a peep from Dad, either. See, the skater playing Nani is wearing the same outfit the character did in the cartoon. Bare midriff shirt, jean shorts, and this lady is BUFF! I’m 9 rows up, and I can see the six pack of her abs. Her legs are phenomenal, and her skating skills are incredible. The rest of her was worthy of extensive <ahem> reminiscing.

I went home and confessed to my wife that I was leaving her for a cartoon character on ice skates.

And I never even got the skater’s name…

Seriously, I thought is would be a fun and silly way to spend a date. My wife and I went to the Sesame Street (with kids, alas), and cuddled the entire time while watching all of the kids in the audience.

Thank you, WishIHadACoolName and Eliphalet, for your input. So basically the feeling is that it would be a fun date for all involved? That’s good to hear. One more question, if anyone else comes along…
I assume it’s a casual dress event, what with wearing light jackets and whatnot. So, being college kids, we wouldn’t be out of place in jeans and hoodies, right? Or, being live theater, is it still more of a dressy event?
Thanks again, guys, I’m really excited about this now. And, as always, more advice is always welcome.

Equating anything “On Ice” with “live theater” seems like a big stretch to me. :dubious:

Jeans and hoodies should be fine.

Definitely go! It’s lots of fun. Jeans and hoodies would be fine.

You know, I’ve never been to a Disney On Ice show before, but I just wanted to comment and say: I love this idea for a date. Too cute! Especially for me, as I’m a huge Disney fan. Hell, I think the current DOI production (at least that’s coming here) is about Disneyland and I sorta wanna go. Maybe I should send this thread to my boyfriend?

Anyway, yeah: great idea!

Dress like the college kids you are! You’ll be perfectly comfortable. Long sleeves under the hoodies, though, just in case you’re cold.

IMO, go out to eat before the ice show. Stuff at these events tends to be ridiculously priced (like $10 for a sno-cone in a character cup). I’d also recommend buying a goofy trinket while you’re there, like a spinning light-up whatzit or something, as a “my boyfriend is too cute for words and knows how to have silly fun” souvenier.

Disney’s on ice? I thought that legend had been debunked.

Ok, I’ve bought the tickets and they’re currently tacked to my corkboard. Thanks everyone for your advice. If we make it back from the trip I’ll try to let you all know how it went. Thanks again.

Well, if there’s anybody still reading this, it went wonderfully. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. No problems getting to or from the arena and the show was amazing. I was really amazed at what some people can do on skates in a big monster costume.
We split a snow cone in a plastic mug shaped like Mike Wazowski’s head. It was really amusing trying to both get our spoons into the sugary, icey goodness.
A very wonderful way to spend the day, and I thank you all for convincing me to go for it.

Glad you went and liked it.
I didn’t want to post this before you went - because I have never been but I was reminded of Woody Allen’s line from Hannah and Her Sisters, Woody Allen is talking about Nietzsche’s theory of eternal recurrence, which says we’re doomed to repeat the same life over and over.

“Great,” Allen says, “that means I’ll have to sit through the Ice Capades again.”

I used to go to Disney on Ice alot when I was in my late teens. For the life of me, I can’t remember why. But I remember enjoying it. However, I’m easily amused. I DO wish I had been able to see THIS Ice experience though.
