Disney reboots Star Tours

No one is sad about the old Star Tours being gone? I used to love that hapless little droid tour guide. :frowning:

Totally agreed. I loved the ride–probably the ride that made me the happiest to ride :frowning:

But this is a good update.
Disneyland has comitted some horrifying update crimes:
[ul]
[li]Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse => Tarzan’s Treehouse[/li][li]20,000 Leagues Under the Sea => Albert Brooks Screams “I can’t find Nemo” for 5mins Underwater Adventure[/li][li]Country Bear Jamboree => Some Pooh Bear Thing[/li][li](WORST OF ALL) Tom Sawyer’s Island => Pirates Cove[/li][/ul]
An revamped Star Tours doesn’t belong on a list with the likes of the above war crimes. It’s a really really cool revamp.

Sometimes things need to be updated. Example: Captain EO
Damn does that movie look like utter crap! If they can convert a 2D movie to 3D, why couldn’t they have converted this 3D movie to a 3D movie with decent 3D??? How am I supposed to know which Anjelica Huston to look at when there’s three of her . . . none of them in focus.

No … worst of all is:

Adventure Thru Inner Space => Star Tours

No loathing for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride --> some Toy Story thing?

Mr. Toad is alive and well in Anaheim. Did he get replaced in Orlando?
In California there’s “some Toy Story thing” in Tomorrowland: Buzz Lightyear’s Star Command (that may not be the exact name) and in the California Adventure park there’s a big Toy Story ride. No one’s messed with Mr. Toad’s turf, though.

At Disney World it’s a Winnie the Pooh thing now. I miss Mr. Toad. :frowning:

I’ll add ExtraTerrorEstrial => Stich’s Great Escape to the list of bad conversions. While I was one of the few who liked the former, the latter is undeniably lame.

I’d throw feces like monkey if they did anything to Mr. Toad.

The Buzz Lightyear shooting gallery ride/game is fun.

He got replaced in Orlando - sorry, I thought by Buzz Lightyear but actually it was Pooh-bear. I was FURIOUS.

In Anaheim the Pooh Bear ride replaced Country Bear Jamboree.

If Pooh axed Mr. Toad in Orlando, does that mean the Country Bears still have sanctuary there?

Over here, we’ll probably get the new Star Wars at Tokyo Disneyland for Tokyo Disney Resort’s 30th Anniversary celebrations in 2013. “Toy Story Mania” is opening next year at Tokyo DisneySea as part of that park’s 10th Anniversary.

Yep.
I recently saw the Country Bears show for the first time in many years. It was kind of fun as nostalgia, but man, is it dated. I don’t think I’d shed any tears if it went away.

Decided to bump the thread now that the ride has been open for a few months to (a) see what people’s impressions are of the new incarnation, and (b) shamelessly plug myself since I am an actor briefly depicted on the ride (4 seconds max)–or rather, on one of the modules of the ever-shifting combinations possible (a friend had to ride it four times before he saw me).

And no, I haven’t been on the ride yet myself, though I can recognize me from the YouTube that someone shot from their cameraphone (though since the ride’s in 3D, I can tell I am me based on what I’m wearing and what I remember from the shoot, not because my features are remotely discernible on the video captured)

It’s a great update of the ride. Including the queue. Great job all around.

Went since reading this thread. Worth it.

Glad I was forewarned-- I was only partially heart-broken that Mr. Toad was gone.

Mr. Toad is gone?!?!?

Had no idea. Last time I was there, all those Fantasyland lines were so long, I didn’t bother. Sorry to see Mr. Toad couldn’t stand up against the new movie-crosspromotion-synergy ethic in the Mouse House. :frowning:

And it would appear that despite riding 3 times, the OP didn’t see the module in which I appear (I had some friends who had to ride 4 times before they saw me). I’ll be down there later in the fall and get to see for myself…
