Disney's Oceans

Anyone seen Disneynature’s new movie Oceans? If so, what’d ya think? I’m assuming it’s something akin to National Geographic set to music but that could be a gross simplification. I’m considering seeing this simply because the trailer has gorgeous footage. For those who have seen it, is it supposed to be educational or, shall we say, artistic?

It does look beautiful, but I haven’t seen it yet, for a totally irrational reason: I’ve come to loathe any show that goes into the wild and fucks with the animals who live there. Needless to say, I thought Steve Irwin was complete dick and though I didn’t celebrate his death, I had a momentary flash of satisfaction that one of the animals he screwed around with got back at him. Then I felt guilty for thinking such a thing. Still…

Rationally, I realize that shows like this are supposed to enlighten people, kids especially, about wild animals/sea life so they’ll think about what it is they need to protect, but really, I don’t want to do my part to encourage exploitation.

Though I do still love Animals Are Beautiful People, so I’m an irrational hypocrite.

As a kid, I saw that at the drive-in. I loved it.
