Distracting hairstyles in TV and film

I read somewhere that the vast majority of people simply don’t notice contemporary hairstyles, even if they’re wildly anachronistic. In fact, I’m willing to bet that 30 years from now, people will be watching Game of Thrones and asking themselves, “Why do all the characters have such 2010’s hair”?

[Ralphie] Look at Kirk Douglas’ fuckin’ hair. THEY DIDN’T HAVE FLATTOPS IN ANCIENT ROME! [/Ralphie]

Cheryl Ladd in Millennium. I didn’t think it was possible to make Cheryl Ladd ugly.

I vaguely recall reading that none of the principle actors wanted to cut their hair to 1950s Army regs. Buncha prima donnas!!! :stuck_out_tongue: But, yeah, the long hair annoys me too - I’m not sure how much is the anachronism and how much is because I spent 11 years in uniform and was hyper aware of hair regs.

First hairdo that I thought of was the beehive from Mars Attacks!

Abigail “Abby” Sciuto in NCIS.

Nobody who would have that hairstyle in the first place would keep the same hairstyle for fifteen years!

Jamie Farr’s was the worst.

Jennshark , I had almost forgotten about those damned bangs in Requiem (hell, I had all but forgotten about the show). There is no hairstyle I detest more and hers is the epitome. Made me root for the evil forces. And you can throw Zoey Deschanel ,the already mention Pauley Perette and Jennifer Love Hewitt in The Ghost Whisperer into my roiling pot of hatred.

Patricia Heaton’s hair in the first season of Everybody Loves Raymond made me active angry. I ended up really liking the series and will watch reruns if I come across them, unless it’s from that time period.

Tara’s braids on *True Blood * were annoying. I can’t put my finger on it; I like braids and I like the actress but not together. It influenced my feelings about the character. Speaking of True Blood, thank goodness they didn’t keep (my sweet baby) Alexander Skarsgard’s character in his long hair. Blecccch.

Aah, yes, Yeoman Janice “Baskethead” Rand…

And all of the women in the old West had blue eyeshadow!

The mom on The Goldbergs. Especially when her hair looks like this. It’s reminiscent of 80’s hairstyles, but too flat on top for the width of the hair. Whenever she’s in a scene, I find myself focusing on her hairdo. None of the other characters have extreme hair like that.

My husband used to like the show La Femme Nikita. I found it completely lame but was happily able to sit through it many times just to look at Peta Wilson’s hair. (I hope it counts if it was distracting in a good way).

I was under the impression that it was specifically chosen because it was disturbing. Mission accomplished!

I’m not familiar with that show, but my junior high yearbooks are full of that hairstyle (including on me). It’s very early 80s.

I was watching a rerun from one of the later seasons of Gunsmoke the other day, and the 1970s long, freshly shampooed, blow-dried hair styles of some the guest actors were just laughable. But at least Festus looked authentic!

The generous sideburns in Star Wars are the one negative thing about the movie to me.

It always makes me laugh how the women have their contemporary roller set bouffant dos with clip on curls or pony tails in the back.

Not really “distracting” but almost all of the mens’ hairstyles on MAS*H were wrong; at the time, your choices were basically “slicked back” or “flat-top crew cut,” and in the military, scratch the first one.

I started binging Lucifer recently and found myself constantly distracted by the bizarre bubble do of Detective Douche.

I think you mean scripted fiction shows, but here is the most distracting hairstyle I have seen on TV. He’s an ancient aliens guy on the History Channel.
