There’s a set of orbs on the bottom gui, I believe just above your skill slots that represent your Action points.
Goddammit, I really didn’t need another game to buy.
Man, this game is huge. Several hours in and I JUST took a step outside the first town.
Combat is HARD. Holy cow, you really have to step up your tactical skills with this one. Had to turn around after the first encounter heading North, and headed west instead in order to grab some experience/loot.
I’m not super happy about inventory management in this game though. Seems clunky at times. Other than that, I’m having a blast!
Anyone have any recommendation on what quests ot take on when level 3-4,a nd which ones to save for later?
Yeah, combat is hard. Definitely get a third and maybe fourth char - I picked up Madora(? I think that’s her name) in the bar, and she’s made a huge difference. As in, I can win some fights whereas before I was just getting my ass kicked.
The caverns under the city that you access by digging up graves in the graveyard were doable for me with Madora. Seemed easier than the 4-7 undead that jump you when you head outside.
On the plus side, when I do get my ass kicked, I just reload and try a different strategy and that’s really fun. I’ve done some fights 4-5 times trying to figure out what works best.
Inventory sucks. I especially hate that each character has their own money stash. I also find the skills/abilities/etc confusing. Not so bad that I’m not playing, but I can definitely tell this game isn’t one where they did a lot of playtesting for user experience before releasing it.
Is it just my aging system, or are loading/saving times abysmal for everyone else too ? Because here, “Quick save” emphatically ain’t.
Agh, the separate gold piles, the inability to trade using multiple characters inventories, the fact that switching character inventories doesn’t switch your quick bar!
And yes, there are some other data related issues as well. Like not knowing which tomes I’ve read without opening them up again, so I can’t tell if this is a book I should sell, or keep.
Very annoying little things with some of the system, though nothing that keeps me from enjoying my playtime. Hopefully they’ll fix these things.
It looks like this is the company’s fastest selling game too! People are estimating 250 thousand since release, with over 170,000 sales confirmed, and they are still on Steam’s top selling list. Here’s hoping they make enough for an expansion and sequel
It takes maybe two seconds for me so it’s your system, yeah.
You’ll really, really, really want to pick up both available companions in the first city since the combat is balanced for a party of four. The mage is in the mayor’s library and the warrior in the inn. Your first foray out of the city should be towards north-west, not west to the beach - all the other directions will have enemies a lot higher level than you.
I’ve finished the first town in about 20-25 hours, just starting to explore the forest.
Okay, on the one hand, y’all are really making me want the game now, and I can’t afford it now. On the other hand, I betcha it’ll be on at least semidecent sale on Steam at Christmas, so I’ll wait until then. This sounds exactly like what I want to be playing.
Side question - how do developers calculate hours of gameplay? I’ve seen games advertised with something like “Over 50 hours of gameplay!” and then when I play them I think “50 hours? No WAY could you finish this in 50 hours!”
Do they mean if you did a perfect speed run or something?
It varies from dev to dev. Most likely its some based off of some aggregate data from their Q&A team.
Most RPG devs will tend to split the game time into main quest and side stuff. The Witcher 3 guys for example, said the main quest should take about 40 hours, while the side stuff can easily push that well into 100+ hours.
Kind of like SKyrim.
Oh no kidding. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dragged health potions to one of my character’s quick bar then wondered where the hell it went, not realizing that changing inventory didn’t change the quick bar.
There’s an exception - the Lone Wolf/Glass Cannon perk combo is just pure, glorious cheese for a caster.
This is the kind of game that makes me wonder where the hell all the money goes in your average AAA game.
This game has such an incredible depth to it, so much interesting dialogue, a rich setting, it’s just dripping with complex, content, where as most AAA games feature narrow spaces, cutscene after cutscene, and the depth of a kiddy pool.
And yet this game was made with $4 million by a small dev team. I would expect games made by 200 people with $50 million would be 10 times more deep, not 10 times more shallow!
Yeah, that works but I wouldn’t recommend it to new players. The two companions add dialogue all the way through the game and in general having four characters makes most fights easier I’d imagine. With two if one gets knocked down or charmed you are down to half of your forces, with four it’s not that big a deal. Glass Cannon further changes the gameplay to the sort of high risk, high reward direction which can be awesome for those who exploit every weakness they find and min/max their combat capabilities. It’s a sort of expert mode, IMO - if you are planning a LW/GC build, you probably don’t need advice meant for newbies.
I’ve been thinking about a Lone Wolf -playthrough as well, but it’ll take a while to finish my actual normal game first. Still 30+ hours to go I reckon.
If you can find a conversation choice that awards you with “blunt” rather than “considerate” you get immunity to charm.
Is that Charm as in the status effect ? I assumed it was Charm the dialogue option…
Seems to be the combat status.
“Spiritual” will make you immune to fear, and “Forgiving” will make you immune to curses, too.
FYI: A new patch was released today and it seems (I have not tried it yet) to offer some substantial changes.
My question is if it is worth restarting? (I know this would be opinion but interested in hearing it).
I am some 40+ hours into the game but having trouble because I think I screwed my builds early on (I did not understand the point system when you leveled so spent points on stupid shit early on and it hurts now). My builds are not horrible and I do not need an “ideal” build either but seems iffy now.
That said tossing 40 hours seems awful harsh.
I wouldn’t restart 40+ hours in - it’s a long game and the changes aren’t that critical IMO. I kinda like being able to decide for both of my characters what they say in any case.
A word of warning - do not enter the third major area until you are done with the second. It doesn’t quite break the game but it really ruins the progression of the story.
Details for those who are curious:
When you zone into Hunter’s Edge/Dark Forest map, the imp Zixzax appears and tells you that the End of Time is under attack. As long as the attack continues, no new portals will open there no matter how many new Star Stones you find. And the cutscenes and background lore are all tied to those portals opening. I went over twenty hours with fireballs raining on me every time I visited the End of Time, missing out on various useful services and lore just because I went exploring a bit.
