Any general thoughts on the accuracy of DNA/ancestry results?
Anyone provided samples to both providers just to compare results?
Is your goal to develop your family tree? Ancestry.com’s DNA program may be an awesome resource. It has found many hundreds of 3rd and 4th cousins for one of my family members and many thousands of more distant cousins. Where pedigrees are available for comparison, the claimed relationship is, indeed, often visible. Thus we have confirmed that much of our pedigree is correct, and unaffected by “undocumented cuckoldings”!
Most interesting are cases where the putative distant cousin has a large pedigree available for viewing which has NO match with my own large pedigree. In one case I’ve concluded that a woman who immigrated to Pennsylvania almost 300 years ago was probably the sister of my own ancestor with the same surname and trajectory.
Of course, it’s still possible that you had some cuckoldings by other family members, like someone cheating with his brother’s wife.
