DNA and human essence

Please, people more knowledgeable here, tell me about the following question:

A human sperm has DNA, right? Also a human egg, right also?

Now, when they fuse together, do their respective DNA get combined in a manner that their previous DNA no longer exist, but new ones arise; and now we have the essential DNA of a new human being, right?

And from this new DNA the entity how present has all the potentials to develop into a mature baby that will exit from the womb come delivery time, right?

Please, tell me what is the real story here. I am largely ignorant in this area. Your information will enable me to do some philosophy on a number of issues.

This link can probably help shed some light on how reproduction and DNA are related.

Not exactly. Through a cell-division process called meiosis, sperm and egg cells are created which carry half the 46 human chromosomes, randomly distributed. When sperm and egg combine, the full complement of chromosomes are restored–a random mix of have the mother’s and half the father’s.

Terrific, thanks to you guys here.

O.K., now I know that when the sperm and egg fuse, then a distinctly unique different in kind and in number (this which as in ID and this one as in #18499394…) entity is formed, similar to papa and mama in many respects but altogether as a whole dissimilar.

Let’s have some more contributions and references.

Thanks, everyone, specially QED. Are you QED some kind of walking encyclopedia? Praise the Lord for guys like you here who are willing to take the time and trouble to share with me your treasure of knowledge.
