DNC Cartoon

I liked the part where Bush said “Heart? We don’t need a heart!”

Then the Justice goes the Supreme Court and starts thumping on the pillers: Civil Liberties BAD!

Wow, you’re right. Bush is inhuman for mocking a convicted pick-ax killer. You’ve convinced me.

This is really a silly discussion. Go ahead and think that Bush is inhuman if you so wish. And if that get’s you your desired result in the next election, more power to you.

You think putting someone (admittedly a murderer) to death is a laughing matter. I do not.

Damn straight he is. If some s.o.b. decided to execute a client of mine and then made fun of the woman’s request for clemency, I’d be sorely tempted to stick a ballpoint pen through his throat.

Maybe SOB #1, the murderer, shouldn’t decide to execute an innocent person. Then they wouldn’t be in the situation they’re in, now would they?

Great summary, rjung. Kind of reminds me of that Far Side cartoon when the cowboys are crouched behind their circled wagons while Indians are shooting burning arrows at them. One of the cowboys says to the other, “Hey, they’re lighting their arrows! Can they do that?”

Really, this was a political cartoon, and political cartoons have never been tools of fair and even discourse. The very nature of a political cartoon is to prop up one side over another! They have to be partisan! And anyway, why would anyone expect the Democratic National Committee’s web site to be anything but partisan?

This cartoon probably won’t convert anyone, but that’s not the point behind all messages. This is more of a rally-the-troops message, and seeing it makes me feel better about being a Democrat, and more likely to spread the word about why it’s important for Democrats to get involved in taking Bush down. If I were to sit idly by and let Bush get another term, then I’d be a lousy American. Challenging Bush is the patriotic thing to do.

Got that, choir? Now, go get 'em!

…who was also a woman pleading for her life.

Thanks for making clear just how heartless Pubbies generally are. The woman may not have deserved clemency, but publicly mocking her for wanting it … what an

ASSHOLE!

I think this is way funnier than the cartoon. YMMV.

Hear, hear! Even if you believe in the ethics of the death penalty, there’s still such a thing as noblesse oblige. Decorum. A show that you’ve got strongly dispassionate feelings toward the way the law is carried out. Obvious glee over the opening of a new city park is one thing; obvious glee over the taking of yet another human life is quite another.

Seems there was another governor who behaved like this.

I want Barabbus.

[Conpiracy Theorist Hat On]

Perhaps they think that Hillary can’t beat Bush. They want her to run in 2008 against a non-incumbant. So sure, they’re trying to lose.

[Conspiracy Theorist Hat Off]

Hillary? In 2008?

Surely they don’t REALLY think she’d have a snowball’s chance in hell!

Frankly, I think tough stuff like this cartoon is just what the Dems need. Trying to take the Pubbie propaganda machine on with sweetness and reason over the last couple of years has been like bringing a knife to a gun fight. Time the Dems whipped out their own guns and started blasting back.

I mean, the Dems have lost the Senate, the House and the White House to the Pubbies with that namby-pamby stuff. The Pubbies took THEIR gloves off years ago. It’s past time for the Dems to do the same.

**Trying to take the Pubbie propaganda machine on with sweetness and reason over the last couple of years **

Picks herself up off the floor laughing

You’re serious?

Sweetness and reason? These past 2 years?

ON WHAT PLANET?!

Hey, we are talking about the guy who was mugging for the cameras, pumping his fist in the air, and goofing around right before declaring the start of war with Iraq on worldwide TV, remember?

The worrying implication at the close is that it’s somehow ‘unAmerican’ to be right-wing.

Perhaps the Democrats could initiate a House Committee on such activities.

Bah, if the right wingers can call people who disagree with them unamerican, so can we!

Bah, if the right wingers can call people who disagree with them unamerican, so can we!

“If they can act like children, we can too!”

So basically, if the big mean Republicans are doing something, it gives the Democrats free license to do the same. I guess you’ve really arrived, Blalron, when you choose to act as low as you claim your opponents do.

Your words would make sense if they were not spoken on behalf of a party that has repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to lie, spread unfounded innuendos, steal elections, make blowjobs a topic of political discourse, and otherwise act like total assholes, a strategy that has clearly worked well for them. I’m not pleased to find the fight sunk to this level, but damned if I think the Dems should let themselves be pushed into political irrelevance because they won’t fight the good fight if it means they have to get in the mud with their opponent.

Gee, minty, thanks for clearing up what is inhuman and what is kind, caring, and compassionate.

Hurting the feelings of a convicted murderer is inhumane and horrible. Death threats when you lose a case are fine.

Shodan

Look, I’m with you folks if you want to say that calling those who disagree with them unamerican is a Republican tactic. It often is. If the Dems used the same tactic then I think rjung’s comments and the far side analogy would make sense.

But, I really think that the Dems are the party that uses scare tactics a helluva lot more than the Repubs. Especially with the elderly and Social Security.

Of course, I don’t regularly frequent the RNC web site. Maybe they do the same thing all the time. Can anybody link to a cartoon of theirs that is similar?
