Yes, Kerry has a lot of money. They do know that W. Bush has a couple bucks to rub together too, don’t they?
What am I missing here? Isn’t this a massive case of the pot calling the kettle black?

From a hardline conservative’s point of view:
Democrat = Communist = Morally shouldn’t be rich.
You forgot the second part of that equation:
Republican = Nazi = Morally bankrupt
Wow, pubbies hypocritical.
Woulda thunk.
That makes sense; nuh
I would like to present a balanced and nuanced view on this, but CSPAN has the Libertrian Party National Convention on, and the fate of the nation hangs in the balance. Rumors abound of a brutal floor fight building between whoosit and whats-his-face.
Funny how they say ‘track your money’ on the monopoly board, as if somehow he pays for all that with his senate salary.
It just shows how desparate they are. God, what they wouldn’t do right now for some real mud to throw at Kerry.
I love the music on that site. Whether or not they should be attacking him for being rich, you have to admit, it’s pretty well done.
I agree, the musical choices were funny. Not sure it was as funny as these guys attacking Kerry’s wealth, but pretty funny! I particularly like Queen’s ‘bicycle’.
Give their tacticians credit for a little more coldbloodedness, willya? They know they’re vulnerable any time an opposition candidate goes with a populist-appeal approach, targeting the GOP as the party of the wealthy and callous. By going after the Democratic candidate for his own wealth, they blunt that attack. Call it misdirection, call it preemptive tu quoque, whatever, it has an effect.
I’m watching that right now–I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve got one word for this year’s LNC: riveting.
As to the OP, that link is equally embarrassing and pathetic. Sigh.
I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion.
First of all, this is nothing new. Second of all, it’s not just Republicans who believe this.
In the book Seven Summits, Frank Wells - then president of Warner Brother and a Democrat - explains that he is shy of all his money and goes out of his way not to flaunt it because of his political beliefs. This was back in the early to mid 1980s.
Like it or not, Democrats lean towards Socialism and Communism - two ideals that believe in the spreading of wealth.
As much as I hate the Bush admin and the GOP I don’t really see this as their typical hypocritical bullshit. It’s a legitimate claim that I would like to see Kerry address.
This is nothing new. Wealthy candidates from either party that try to proclaim themselves as “being for the common man” have experienced the same attacks. Funny part is that most of the criticism has been somewhat justified . Few, if any, of the incumbents or candidates for national office have any recent personal knowledge of day to day strife of the working class. While it’s true that you can attempt to have their best interest at heart, it doesn’t mean you understand what it’s like to be in their shoes.
What claim should Kerry address? That he leans towards Socialism and Communism or that he’s rich?
I didn’t see a particular claim on the website but I didn’t click on all the properties.
That he’s rich.
Bush’s father, a Yale grad, attacked Clinton for being a snooty elitist because he went to Oxford.
They have no shame, they just fling whatever they can think of to see what sticks. There is certainly nothing to lose, after all, if you’ve stuck with Bush through the mess of the last couple years, a little attack website isn’t going to make you change horses now.
This is just pathetic and hilarious at the same time…it’s pathelarious. Here we have a president with the biggest war chest ever, with more coming in every day; a president firmly in the grip of big business; a president who makes no pretense of gutting regulatory law to increase the profits of his contributors; and his party is pissing in Kerry’s Wheaties because he has money?
Who was the last president who wasn’t a little rich boy wanting to play god? Ike? Truman?
Weren’t they all?
Honestly, have we ever had a true Joe Sixpack president?
That should do while I’m waiting for the Indy 500 rain delay to end.
The subtext of the attacks I’ve seen is that Kerry is a gold-digger. He married an immensely rich woman. It’s just another way to throw slime around, that’s all.
More than you might think. Many of our recent (50, 60 years or so) have risen from fairly humble beginnings, and not all of them were rich even when they took office. Truman springs to mind; in the interests of equal time Nixon was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth either.
