Do adult women wear capelets (AI warning)

I’ve oft seen younger girls (viz, pre-adolescent) wear garments like this.

I doubt I’ve ever seen one on an adult woman, in media or in real life, except maybe in a cosplay situation where the woman is cosplaying as a person from another time period.

Do adult women ever wear these in daily life?

I’ve seen adults wearing capelets as a shawl in a local California culture. I was surprised to see them for sale with Amazon and Dillard’s; it seems they’re fashionable.

A lot of homemade knitted ones got passed off as gifts when I was a kid. I think they just gave up on the sweater they intended to make.

They used to be part of British (and possibly other) nurses’ uniforms.

You start from the bottom. That way, when you give up, it can be a belt.

I’ve never been in a British hospital. I assume they just wear scrubs now?

Only women who don’t wear montagues.

They were part of medieval pilgrim garb. Never seen one except for historical recreations.

Yeah. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a modern kid wearing that, much less an adult.
It’s OG.

Well, *I* laughed.

8 hours later it just occurred to me what you meant.

I laughed as well.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone of any age wearing one.

As far as I can recall, nurses and doctors both wear something like this:

I’ve never seen one IRL, either.

I’ve seen bolero jackets in the wild a few times on adults. Not quite a capelet, but certainly a mutant cousin of some sort.

e.g.

Like a short poncho? stupidest ‘fashion’ ever, with your head sticking out of a hole in the top! You might as well be traipsing about in the plastic cape you wear while getting a haircut.

Seriously, so many of you people have never even seen once? I see them all the time, for me as recently as Easter when I was at a restaurant when the post-church crowd was coming in, saw at least two on little girls. And these weren’t weird families that dress old-fashioned because of their religion - the moms were in pantsuits or whatever, for example.

Oof. Hideous. Our nurses in ths US usually look like this.

? I can’t see much difference.

The seam on yours goes all the way down the garment. The seam on ours stops at the bottom of the neck. Yours have collars, ours don’t.

Not hideous; practical. These are people dealing with piss, shit, vomit, and blood for 12 hours or more per shift. Those neatly pressed white uniforms like Dixie McCall wore on TV are ridiculously ill suited for the tasks involved.
