I have not done any research on this topic. This is a straight question. What I DO know is that back when there was slavery, (very bad times), that these awful slave owners would literally “breed” African-American who had the biggest um how do I say “package” bc they truly believed the men with the biggest ones would produce bigger and stronger slaves. True Fact. Do any of you out there believe that this so-called “breeding” led to stronger African-Americans??? From what I’m told and have seen from strippers we know the big package thing is true. I’m not racist or ignorant in any way. But do you think, believe or know if this “breeding” helped their race become so strong and fast?

Rebutting this is a trivial exercise in introductory population genetics. (The wars would have had to have killed off 99.99% of the tallest men to result in a permanent measurable difference. Also…lots of soldiers had children before they became battlefield casualties!)

It’s a popular racist urban legend, but it doesn’t fit the facts. For one thing, many or even most African Americans have some European ancestry (largely due to the accepted practice of raping attractive slave women), which is obviously not conducive to some sort of artificial selection. For another, human beings are not cattle, and even slaves generally were able to have sex with any other people (slaves or not) that they wanted to (and who wanted them – in addition to the aforementioned rape and other coerced sex). Locked gates might pen in sheep or cattle, but not humans who really want to see the ones they love.
and are you sure that is analogous to the southern USA in the 1800’s and 1700’s. The process may have been more focused there…

The tallest men would most often be in the grenadier companies, that would bear the brunt in the attack collumn. You would therefore indeed expect their casualty rate to be higher.
It should however be noted that a large percentage, of those killed, would have died from disease and fatigue, rather than combat.

If slave owners wanted to breed slaves who were big and strong, they would do it directly by choosing slaves who were big and strong as breeding stock.

I would rather think that, on the whole, white people do not have as much incentive to train as hard. For a lot of black people sports is simply one of the few ways to escape poverty.

Could be. The OP, however, posits that there is some superiority because of the breeding of slaves. This factor would be absent for actual Africans.
