Forgive me for being skeptical, but I do believe this is an exagerration if not an outright lie. And I tend to think it is simply an outright lie.

I doubt if it needs to be a lie.
I have had similar observations made to me by Judges, years ago. I was “Strongly encouraged” to consult the bible when I became a consciencious objector, although that was a Military Court Officer, rather than a judge. But it was still an infringement upon the process of justice by an opinion entiirely based on a particular religion.
I am a Christian, and I still found it offensive.

Doesnt that mean obey the law? He was told to remove the monument, he should remove the monument.
