As for myself (american) I really like GW. I may not agree on EVERYTHING he does, but he is a good guy.
As for foreigners I’ve talked to… no one really likes him
in fact, one of my favorite comments was “Bush is a crazy, funny guy”

Another UK Doper checking in to say that I hate Dubya. The man is an ignorant, swaggering chimp, with one hand on his six-gun and the other giving the finger to the international community.
Blair is nothing more than a bloody little poodle, prancing and yapping to Dubya’s tune. While he might not exactly like the taste, he certainly has his tongue firmly planted in Dubya’s sphincter
He reminds me of Bill Clinton (keep in mind, I voted for Clinton). He’s smart, he’s a smooth talker, and he’s always on top of things. I’m not sure how genuine he is, or the depth of his sincerity, though.
All in all, I am quite jealous of y’all, at least you have a leader who can string ten words together without mutilating the English language.
Our saying here about Blair is that “once you can fake sincerity, the rest is easy”.
He’s seems to be very much from the teflon media-politican mold, sort of Clinton-Lite, actually. Bright, worldly, well educated and well-spoken. But as for substance…ah.
I’m frustrated that Blair has cast Britain as little more than an inane Greek chorus to Dubya’s hubris: “We agree, we agree, we agree!” Britain’s is possily the one voice that could put the brakes on this insanity. Instead…well, Blair comes off as little more than Dubya’s sock puppet.

GAR! I really get sick of this being pointed out. There are a LARGE number of americans who can’t speak english well. Sure he says “embetterment” and “Nucular,” but you don’t have to pick on him for it (sometimes it’s kinda funny, though! )
I guess I don’t have to, but I can. It’s not like he doesn’t do anything to earn this scorn. I was listening to him talk just yesterday and by the end, I was screaming “NUCLEAR!” at the radio.
P.S. I don’t care if you can dig up a cite that says that nukular is an acceptable pronunciation. It is NOT. The end.
Good point…
Anyway, I think GW is getting a bad wrap because of MANY inconvinient events that have happened which are not his fault:
The Economic Downturn (YES, this is Clinton’s fault)
The downed spy-plane
WTC and Pentagon
North Korea
It seems like the blame goes straight to the top, though, instead of where it belongs (hmm, America is a blame-throwing country, isn’t it?)
How do you know that? He is all PR.
it comes with the job…
John Newcombe (old oz tennis star) is on record as thinking of him as a mate. Of course he was involved in a drink driving incident with him way back when and we all know what alcohol does to your ability to choose friends
I haven’t heard any other non-politician Australians speaking kindly of him.
You’re kidding, right? The Sept. 11 attacks are the reason Bush’s approval rating is as high as it is. Bush had a 90% approval rating immediately after Sept. 11, and Bush and the U.S. had the sympathy and cooperation of almost every country in the world. Bush’s popularity at home has slipped because most people don’t like his domestic policies, and his popularity abroad has slipped because no one likes being bullied by an arrogant, ignorant, shortsighted fool.
My husband has been travelling to Germany on business in the last year and he says that over there everyone he has encountered has said they hate Bush.
Well, I’m British and I think that Bush is doing the right thing.
waves the New Zealand flag I don’t like him at all. Most people I talk to regard him with a mixture of contempt and fear. I keep waiting for him to say ‘nuclear-friendly or else!’ and drop us from his list of not-allies-but-very-very-very-good-friends list.
None taken: I think this is a very apt description.
Do any non-Americans actually like George W. Bush?
Well taking the question literally, having never met the man I couldn’t really comment. Maybe if it was just me and GwB around a BBQ with a couple of beers I’d warm to him personally.
As POTUS, his unworldliness astounds me, I despair the clumsy way he goes about diplomacy and I distrust his motives.
It’s his circle of hawk advisors that I hate.
I have a sister who lives in South Africa and she has told me that her friends are afraid Bush is going to start WWIII. In her opinion anti- American sentiment is higher now than ever before (she has lived there for over 20 years).
What do we Americans think of Blair? I don’t understand him. I don’t know why he supports Bush. Don’t the majority of people in Great Britain oppose a war with Iraq? What is his motivation? I think if the governments of France, Germany, and Great Britain opposed the war, our Congress would be less willing to commit to a war with Iraq.
As TVeblen suggests, there’s a very large feeling among the UK public that Blair is Bush’s sock puppet. His government has already clamped down on the latest proposed anti-war demonstration in London, claiming safety reasons prohibit any assembly in the proposed venue. I do not have especially objective figures to hand, but some MORI figures suggest that 68% disagree with Bush’s handling of Iraq, 77% would oppose non-UN sanctioned action, 62% disagree with Blair’s position, and the the support for UN-sanctioned action has dropped from 71% to 61% since late September.
In my experience, foreigners hate Bush as much as I do. The only exception I found was in Kenya. However, I suspect that the guy was trying to be polite, since he had been asked point blank by an American what he thought of him.
