On the other hand, around here wasps eat termites. Since, eventually, my house will probably be destroyed by termites, my fear and loathing is balanced by a healthy tolerance for meat-eating wasps.
Adding to the folks who affirmed it’s a yellowjacket… this time of year (early autumn) is when yellowjackets usual food sources start to run low, and they get more adventurous and aggressive in their foraging. You’ll see them swarming on anything sweet or savory this time of year.
