There are quite a few car makes named after animals. Now, many people don’t know much about animals, so they think that the car came up with the name, and are surprised when they see a horse referred to as a Mustang, or a “deer” referred to as an Impala, or a shark referred to as a Tiburon. Same with Broncos, Barracudas, Cobras, Cougars (now extinct), the good 'ol Pinto, VW had both rabbits and beetles. You have Dodge Rams, Chargers, and Vipers. That’s off the top of my head. I would be surprised if there are not more.
I’m pretty sure he meant the entire company, not individual models.
The company is currently Tata, was Ford before that, though for 5 years before that, it was its own company, but before that it was part of BMC. It didn’t even start out as a Jaguar, but as a “Swallow”, a different animal name. For it’s near 100 year history, less than a quarter of it was actually under the company name “Jaguar”. Outside of that, it has been a model, not a company.
Bah. If I’m going to buy a ludicrously expensive car that spends more time in the shop than on the road, it’ll be a Maserati.
I remember that in old times “The rabbit died” was referring to a positive pregnancy test *. In more recent times “The rabbit died” was referred to by cops, medical people, etc. when dealing with the aftermath of crashes where small cars like that one shuffled their mortal ignition coils…
(BTW, the idea that the rabbit had to die for a positive test was not accurate)
Well, of course not, but you had to kill it in order to have your celebratory dinner.
Seeing as how none of those boycotts worked at all, it’s easy to see how Shagnasty made the mistake of overgeneralizing from “our boycotts don’t work” to “boycotts don’t work”.
This may be technically all true, but “Jaguar” is definitely solidified as a brand in most peoples’ minds, not just a model of car.
Yes, I’m well aware of the many models of cars named after animals; I meant makes of cars named after animals. Of which Jaguar is the only one I can really think of.
I, for one, never had any clue that “Jaguar” was ever the name of a company. I always just assumed that it was a model, and if you’d asked me “Who makes the Jaguar?”, I would have said “I’m not sure” (not “What do you mean?” or “Jaguar, of course!”).
They’re known for making beautiful car-shaped sculptures.
I think I saw one move once.
Must have been in the daylight.
