We’ve moved with cats five times. Overall, they’ve done well. Our rules for a happy move:
[ol]
[li]Give them some settling-in time in a small, private space (bathroom or laundry room) with their own stuff - bring the litterbox, scratching post, bed, blanket, toys, or whatever else they like and use[/li][li]If they’re indoor-outdoor cats, give them at least a couple of weeks indoors so they acclimate to the idea that the new place is home, and supervise the first few outdoor visits (we keep them to about an hour each)[/li][li]When they come out of the private acclimatizing space, let them explore on their own. Don’t force them into places or situations if you can help it[/li][li]Try not to change what you feed them at the same time as a move. The stress combined with a diet change can make things unpleasant[/li][li]If you’re introducing a new cat, put the new and old cats in the new house at the same time. That way it’s new to both cats, and neither is invading the other’s established turf[/li][li]Be prepared to find them in pretty strange places. After moves, our cats managed to find obscure (and usually very tiny) hideouts. We’ve thought we lost a cat a couple of times only to find out that it found a place to hide[/li][/ol]
Good luck!
