They are a bloody spot on the yolk if you have them early on for breakfast.
They are, I believe attached directly to the yolk. But is there any scar or mark on a chicken where the yolk was attached?
OK, so my GF and I talk about strange things on Friday night. Sue me, already.
I’ve never looked, but I’ve read that chicks’ navels may still be open when they hatch, and close while they’re resting from breaking the shell. The navel stays open because the chick basically sucks the remaining yolk into its stomach through the navel, a day or so before hatching.
