Do cats get cavities also?
yes, and gingivitis
Yup. Dogs and cats both. I have had a dog with a cavity, and I have a cat now with a cavity.
Yes, for both.
If you google veterinary dentistry you can probably find some really disgusting phots of rotting pet teeth. Yuuuu-uuuuck! Found it while looking up info on my kitty’s receding gums.
You can also buy special tooth paste specifically for cats and dogs (do NOT try human toothpaste, your pet will hate you and may puke). The pet toothpastes work via friendly enzimes and usually come in chicken and malt flavours (I think the chicken flavour gives them raunchy breath). You can buy little pet toothbrushes, fingertip style toothbrushes, or just rub their fangs and gums lightly with clean gauze if they won’t tolerate a toothbrush. Even if they only tolerate it for a second, it’s better than nothing.
BTW, dentistry for pets is expensive. They have to get knocked out under a general anaesthetic just for a proper tooth cleaning. Some vet’s suggest doing it twice a year like a human, but I couldn’t imagine putting my pets under anaesthetic like that twice a year.
