I saw a fox hunting the other day and it got me thinking about foxes and other territorial animals. Wiki says that a fox has a litter size of between 1-10. Let’s say a fox has five pups. Some of them will die but even if only one survives it must share territory with its mom and dad. This means less food for everyone. How does the local population deal with this? Does the mother chase the pup off the territory? Does it share territory? Does the pup have to fend for itself when it becomes an adult?
This question applies to other animals that must share territory with its offspring. By the way, foxes are not pack animals so the pup does not join a pack.
