However, I’ve yet to see any Doper actually seriously advocate this position. Perhaps you can cite some examples?

We did, it’s way too expensive and Adam Lanza got into a “hardened” school anyway. Any ideas that are practical and would be effective?

I did not put it in anyone’s mouth. I specifically said that’s what I, me, myself, personally, read (or hear, if you prefer) when that particular argument is put forward, because it makes no other sense to me and because I’ve heard it many, many times from “race realists” and similar back in that hallowed time when racists kinda had to tiptoe around it in public (so, pre Trump, mostly). I’m open to contrary arguments. I don’t believe **Jacquernagy **to be racist, quite the contrary. If I did I wouldn’t have taken the time to address them in any way.
Sorry, I don’t consider amending the Constitution to be shitting on it. YMMV.

True, but you *can *pass such laws if you want to do so, the 2nd Ad does not prevent laws being passed that require background checks.

Not really, such things have wide support. True the most reactionary dont support any restrictions, but they are a tiny minority. I am generally considered “in the 2A camp” but I support such things. (altho a law banning the possession of large magazines is stupid).

Why else would you repeal the 2nd Ad to end all school shootings? To pass reasonable laws, like the ones you can already pass with the 2nd Ad in place?

You’re missing the point, I fear. They want to TALK about scrapping the 2nd precisely because they know it is ridiculously unlikely to happen. This way, they get to preen over having proposed the solution to gun violence that would have worked. Alas…all those gun fetishists and deplorables and racists and such just wouldn’t let it happen. IOW, it’s not about accomplishing anything. It’s about getting to enjoy feeling simultaneously outraged and superior.

The “Repeal the 2nd” movement is coming about because any “common sense” changes to gun laws is met with a screaming chorus of "2A 2A 2A 2A 2A! OMG FUKOFFMYGUNZ!‘’ Since the 2nd Amendment is being used as the armor to defend against any and all changes to gun laws, why should the opposition not try to remove it?
Also, since legal gun rights stem only from it, not from anywhere else in this or any other country’s constitutions or concepts of civilization or in any other moral code, its defenders are induced to adopt a religious view of it rather than a rational one. That spell needs to be broken, and the only way to do that is to end it.
Along with threats of mass murder of LEO’s if there were ever to be any such changes - to whatever extent you think those death threats are credible. There’s no room for anything short of that for these guys. And we have them even on the Dope.
You can try if you want. You have little chance of success - a strong majority of Americans do not want to repeal it.
“We can’t do anything until we repeal the 2nd” is pretty close to saying “We can’t do anything”. You can’t repeal the 2nd, and you don’t want to talk about anything besides repealing the 2nd.
