Maybe not many on an ordinary sneeze, but what if I “hold it”? Is that dangerious or deleterious in any other way?
Also is it true that one has so many “extra” brain cells that drinking and other activities dont really have an effect for ordinary consumers, users, etc…?
Holding in a sneeze results in increased pressure transmitted into your sinus cavities and thru your eustacian tubes to your middle ear. This can be uncomfortable and can conceivably rupture an eardrum or force nasal fluids into the sinus cavity, where it can seen an infection. It will also transiently elevate intra-cranial pressure, but not in any significant or harmful way. It does not kill brain cells.
Neurotoxins can have a detrimental effect on the brain, and the idea of “less is better and none is best” should be held as the standard if longterm cerebral functioning is your goal. The ‘extra’ brain cells are generally the glial, or support cells, and aren’t involved in conducting nerve impulses. As such they are more expendable, but lose enough of them and the central nervous system suffers.
I just spent the afternoon trying to communicate with a patient who definitely consumed too many neurotoxins in the form of alcohol and cocaine over the years. It was a frustrating time for us both.
