Umm, I believe it was actually Franco-Japanese production. And they still owe me another season. We get lots of fun adventure shows from Europe like WITCH (Italian) and Totally Spies (France) but there are too many kids save the world but have to keep it a secret shows about.
It might also depend on the network. CN, Disney and Nick all seem to have their own feel.
Wow, now there was a great show I used to watch. Didn’t it even have an episode about Shangri La? I remember it being so much better than a lot of the mindless stuff they run now.
Also, to threadjack a bit, where did all the good science shows go? Bill Nye, Beakman, etc. I know they both do adult shows now, but are there any good science based shows now whose goals are to teach children the scientific method and about science issues?
Followed shortly thereafter by “Immortality hurts.” Got to love Finn.
Isn’t WITCH written by Greg Weisman, the same guy who wrote the Gargoyles series? I found it much more engaging than I expected, and was going to mention it as a counterpoint to the current general dearth of medieval European-style castles and villages.
Talespin was the bomb diggity. I have the DVD set and it’s really great to watch even now, unlike some nostalgic fare I really only half-watched the first time around like the Ninja Turtles. Talespin had an epic feel in many of its episodes, but had a lot of humor as well, and a very stylish design for a Disney product (the art-deco touches of the 1930s-era setting are really nice). It really was a show that people of a large age range could enjoy, and I think it’s the closest that any show in my youth came to being akin to Avatar in that respect. Talespin has the advantage over Avatar that you don’t even have to watch every episode to tell what’s going on. Great stuff.
Dunno, but I watch it. Maybe the words of BareNaked Ladies, in relation to Sailor Moon, will suffice:
“'Cause the cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing”
I have watched Winx a few times and I think its pretty good. I mean I watched it all the the way through and I know I am not their target audience. I think the show is empowering for girls shows them they can do anything.
“What’s New, Scooby Doo?” continues in the tradition of its predecessor from the 60’s. As well as the made-for-TV animated movies.
There is also a current show called “Shaggy & Scooby Get A Clue”, which I have not bothered to watch so far. It only has Shaggy and Scooby. Daphne, Fred, and Velma have been left out.
