No. As far as participation on the Board goes, those listed as SDSAB are just ordinary members. We have nothing to do with administration of the Board. The only distinction is that we write Staff Reports (based on questions sent in to Cecil that he does not choose to handle himself), and may on occasion assist Cecil with research.
Only those who have the titles of Moderator or Administrator have Mod powers. However, Moderators and Adminstrators also have access to questions, and are therefore also ex-officio members of the SDSAB. Some write Staff Reports, some do not. Retired Moderators and Administrators retain the SDSAB title for a time (indefinitely if they continue to write Staff Reports).
Apples and oranges. Mods have POWER, SDSAB have KNOWLEDGE.
I don’t know about the others, but I personally am faster than a speeding bullet.
You didn’t get as much spam as you could eat, too? We get more spam than we can digest around here. Good thing, too, because trolls are just so damn gritty.
It would be kind of cool if one of you who’s been around since AOL days listed off the former Mods. who remain members in good standing, as a bit of board history. In addition to Chronos, there’s Euty, TVeblen, Uncle Beer, and Coldfire; I think nickrz is still around at least occasionally, and I know I’m missing several names.
I, personally, have always wondered about this mug thing moderators get. I mean, who the hell wants some awful pic of someone’s face cluttering up their desk? And who’s mug is it, anyway?
Beyond that, I have always envied the mods. Yeah, I know. Sick.
Really? I didn’t know that. I don’t think Cecil Adams has ever done any moderating, though. He doesn’t post often enough for that. Despite being an Administrator (and therefore presumably having the powers), I don’t think jdavis has ever done any moderating as well, since his job is on the technical side of things.
I was talking about how fast I do the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle.
What were you thinking of? :dubious:
Mine has an illustration by Slug Signorino on it. Quite disquieting, really. I usually keep mine in the back of the cupboard so it doesn’t scare visitors.
