I work in an office with over 200 phone lines. For the past week, the office has been flooded by calls from a local newspaper soliciting subscriptions. We have informed them numerous times that the range of numbers they are calling is a place of business, it is interfering with our duties, and please remove that range of numbers from the list. On my extension alone, I have received at least 10 calls in the past 3 business days.
I finally have a list of extensions to this building, but the “direct line” to the supervisor at the newspaper is apparently bogus.
Whenever a rep calls and we ask for a supervisor, they are “away from their desk” and we are unable to get a hold of someone in charge.
Since business to business calls are not covered under the Do Not Call registry, do I have any recourse?
Any chance of looking up the newspaper in the phone book or online and getting a different number for a supervisor, or even the editor? If it’s a large enough paper they should have someone else you can contact.
I’m trying that, but I’ve been on hold so long and so many times that I was able to compose the OP, wait for a response, and reply
Wow, I actually have an e-mail address. I am forwarding the list to them.
Should this fail to stop the calls, is there another option for relief?
I don’t know if you have the time or motivation, but I’m certain a competing paper would love to have the chance to write an srticle about the mixup in their “consumer action” section.
The “competing paper” is owned by the same company.
Just like two competing news stations around here are owned by the same comany and have even swapped anchors at times.
You can try lodging a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
We had a similar problem with a company faxing advertisements to every phone number in the office, including the fax trick of redialing 3-4 times at each number. We were able to eventually get them to take a whole block of numbers off their call list.
Find the name, address and email address of their CEO. Write him and cc to his email. This information is available in the newspaper. Tell the CEO your problem. I did this once when a newspaper employee was harassing me and I got instant results.
Does your business advertise in the paper, are they a potential client or do others in your business advertise in the paper? If so, have your marketing director call their advertising editor.
