They’re also often badly designed, which is why cyclists often avoid them. If it’s safe to do so I will always use them, but I’m not going to use them if it puts me (or my bike) at greater danger.
Of course, the alternative should be cycling in the road, not on the footpath.
If you’re talking about the one downtown, yes, and that’s very close to where I live. I see the little memorial about twice a week.
Another thing about “On your left.” Even if people don’t understand what that means for whatever reason, the whole damn thing is largely irrelevant since joggers have on their goddamn iPods 80% of the time and can’t hear you yell anyway. If you’re going to be in everyone’s damn way, can you at least be alert? But I guess there may be some relationship between their obliviousness and their clogging up clearly marked bicyle paths. Another reason to get the extra shrill air horn!
The joggers were particularly annoying this Saturday because it was early in the morning and was raining. I thought the time and weather would help me avoid the dipshits, but alas, not.
Two weeks ago, I was on the bike path alongside the River Road (I can’t remember if I was on the Minneapolis or the St. Paul side).
Imagine my surprise when I saw a motorized scooter in the bike path, coming toward me, ridden by a guy with a toddler (without a helmet) sitting on his lap!
