Do NSAIDs inhibit muscle recovery/growth?

I have a friend who generally knows his stuff on the subject of exercise and bodybuilding. He says that taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen or alleve has an inhibiting effect on the recovery/growth period after a strength training workout because they inhibit inflammation, and inflammation is part of the recovery/growth process.

Is there any truth to this, and if so, to what degree does taking the NSAID affect things? Does it matter if you take it before the workout, or hours/a day after to smooth over the soreness?

Regular, long-term use is what is most inhibiting. Soreness on a regular basis from workouts should just be dealt with(harden up, man! :D).

Short term use, such as after an injury, competition or severe workout is not a problem.
Google “nsaids muscle recovery” for loads of articles and links to various studies that explain it better than I can.

Dr. Gabe Mirkin is my go-to guy on such matters.
