Inside decorations at my house have been down since 12/28. I have some lights on our privacy fence and some in a tree that are still up but haven’t been lit since 1/10. I won’t take them down until it warms up a little. Some strands are probably frozen in ice. The wires might even snap if I try to move them around (-44 windchill this morning!). I have a wreath on the fence gate that is still up but it’s not very Christmasy - just pine, cedar, and spruce greenery. I’ll take that down shortly. I haven’t noticed any lights on in the neighborhood for quite some time. Although our next-door neighbors have lights in their patio area on 24/7/365.
An update:
Base temperature today is -33C.
Enviro Canada has issued an extreme cold warning, with windchill between -40 and -50 C.
Decorations are staying up until April.
I leave my lights up year around but they’re programmable icicle LEDs. After January 1st I just set them to white. Since we have black dogs it’s easier to find them in the yard than with just a porch light.
Mardi Gras decorations are up now.
I’ve seen quite a few outdoor lights and Christmas wreaths still hanging on front doors, which is a new one on me. I think it’s a covid thing, trying to cheer up a miserable new year.
I wouldn’t do it myself, as I like to keep Christmas firmly in it’s December box, but don’t begrudge others.
Pro Tip: We never put one up anymore. humbug.
I noticed a few houses on my drive out of the neighbourhood still had Christmas decorations up. But that’s all harmless. I’m just glad that the over-enthusiastic neighbours on either side of me have taken down theirs. On one side I had a floodlight fanatic, and on the other side, a set of pulsing and flashing lights that looked like a major accident scene attended by police, fire, and ambulance! At least this year I didn’t get sound effects, too – in some past year, I had a jerk across the street blaring Christmas carols!
We have deck lights on the front of our house (on our deck) that look a lot like Christmas lights, and they’re up year-round. My son likes to turn them on at random times, so I suppose if someone drove by they might think we still had our Christmas lights going. Our actual Christmas lights are still up (too dang cold and snowy to take them down), but haven’t been on since the first week of January or so.
I haven’t seen many Christmas decorations/lights still going, but we live in the country, and haven’t been in many neighborhoods lately.
My city still has Christmas-y decorations on the lamp posts downtown and some other places (bridges, for example.) However, the decorations are put up and taken down by city employees on unpaid volunteer time. I suppose they’re waiting for better weather.
Like some others, my house lights are still up but unlit. To much snow and ice to bother right now.
My kid’s daycare provider took down most of her decorating but still has a pair of 3D wire frame reindeer with white lights that are lit up at night. We didn’t have snow over Christmas so maybe she figures she deserves some wintery lights now that it’s here.
There is a push around here to keep the christmas lights up in March 3rd.
In the 40s, people would leave their lights up after Christmas to support the #StockShow workers who spent long & lonely nights getting the event ready.

We want YOU to help us show love to our community this year by leaving the lights up until 303 Day! 🙌

Ours are still up because we’re busy/lazy but we stopped powering them on January 20th though local tradition is to go to Jan 26th.
Halfway around the block from my house, there is a house with two small yard banners featuring pictures of Santa Claus.
The neighbor across the street was late putting his up.
It’s pretty cool. If he put a heart on top for V.D., a Shamrock for St. Pat’s, and changed the patterns to reflect the seasons etc?
In my neighborhood, yes. People talked about it on the listserve. Neighbors kept the lights up to give the kids stuck at home something nice to look at when they walked around. Theyve actually been doing lots of little things like that, like hosting a roving band of pink plastic flamingoes, or putting teddy bears up around their houses for kids to spot. Breaks up the monotony a little.
In years past, relatively few houses in my neighborhood decorated. This year, about twice as many did. My lights will be coming down in the next month or so but they’re still up for now.
