Do people with slow metabolism live longer?

I remember reading some study a while ago that found that people (or maybe just lab rats) who consumed fewer calories lived longer on average. Is this because of slowed metabolism? It would make sense since a faster metabolism would cause all processes in the body to speed up, which would therefore accelerate the aging process, or at least I would think so. And it this is true, could one live longer by skipping breakfast or by eating every other day?

Not that I would ever try to reduce my food consumption , because I like food, but I was just curious as to whether there’s a correlation between the two.
