I ask because we have yet another climate change debate brewing, which is against the rules for GD and P&E but not technically against the rules for Cecil’s Columns. The rule changes predated the Cecil’s Columns coming live again. It feels like they should. I think the rule changes were good to keep from rehashing tired subjects and low-quality content. It seems like the kind of behavior we would want in GD and P&E is the same behavior we would expect in Cecil’s Columns.
The GD and P&E rules do not apply to Cecil’s Columns.
Also the Mod staff is different for Cecil’s Columns.
Here are the Mods for the forum.
@RickJay, @Loach, @engineer_comp_geek & Ed_Zotti, Cecil’s Editor and the SDMB admin.
I believe they want the conversation to be looser than the GD standards, but I will let them speak for themselves.
Cecil’s current column is about climate change. It would be kinda silly to ban discussions of climate change when discussing an article about climate change.
This is correct.
Discussing whether climate change is real though?
I suspect every column on climate change will become a “climate change isn’t real and here’s reason X,Y, and Z” that have been debunked a bajillion times. Like the current climate change isn’t real argument happening right now. It really feels that like has been done to death, but if that’s the decision, then that’s the decision.
The only debate in the thread seems to be mostly between you and Chicago_Faucet. If you don’t want there to be debate about the topic in the thread why are you so insistent on debating him about it?
The topic of Cecil’s article is Canada and climate change. It’s not a general debate thread on climate change. The Cecil’s Columns forum is less strict than GD, so we’re more tolerant of the topic meandering a bit. GD would enforce much a much stricter adherence to the topic. But Chicago_Faucet is at least basing his discussion off of Cecil’s article, so there is at least some relevance there.
If the thread does go completely off of the topic and turns into a general debate on climate change, feel free to report those posts.
I didn’t debate him on it? I think you mean wolfpup.
Looks to me like 2 posts by you and 1 by wolfpup, plus an additional post by you linking to the GD rules.
In any event, like I said, if you think the thread is going too far off-topic, please report the posts. There were no reports at all prior to this ATMB thread.
