Do they still make role play books?

I think that’s what they’re called. I used to love these when I was a teenager.

Basically, what it is, at certain points in the story, you have to decide what you want the character to do (which usually involves rolling a die). The object of course is to make it to the end of the story with out dying.

Any books you would like to recommend?

Apparently one new book of this type came out recently and others are still in print Fighting Fantasy - Wikipedia

I remember those …we also did the same thing in grade school with the choose your own adventure books …if you hit 7 you took the first choice if you hit 11 you took the second

Some of the old Fighting Fantasy books have been made into apps, which roll the dice and keep your character sheet for you. At least one newer one was produced, called Blood of the Zombies. A couple of my old favorites, House of Hell and Island of the Lizard King, also made the cut. The very first of the Fighting Fantasy series was The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.

Finding these apps can be hit or miss, though, depending on where you look. Amazon had several that were “active content” versions for the e-ink Kindles, and I actually bought several, but now it seems to want me to buy them again. Several of the newer apps I’ve previously bought for the Kindle Fire are now showing “geographic restriction”. Google Play still seems to have some for sale.

There are several apps like The Grand Tournament.

I have downloaded two free “choose your own adventure” apps for my mobile that I really enjoyed a lot. I was surprised by how well written they were. The only problem with both of them was that they were incomplete at the time I downloaded them and I never went back to see if they were done. One was a vampire story and the other a magical fantasy. If anyone can point me to others that they thought were good, I’d be most grateful. They don’t have to be free but it would be nice if they didn’t cost more than a cheap paperback.

Well, here’s a few Google Play links: House of Hell, Island of the Lizard King, Forest of Doom, Starship Traveller, Bloodbones, Caverns of the Snow Witch, Blood of the Zombies. Each one is $2.99 at the moment.

I can’t do iOS app store links from this computer, sorry, but just search for titles. The ones I linked are all made by the same company, Tin Man Games, so maybe search for that too.

The Lone Wolf series is (legally) available online, apparently.

Also, Choice of Robots on Steam is effectively a computerized version of the same thing (and quite good). There’s other “Choice of” games but I haven’t played them.
