Do we have any Design Engineers here with us?

If so, I have a question…

Exactly how do you used math to design things? Correct me if I am wrong (and I probably am), but as of now it is my understanding that:

** Algebra** - is used to fit objects together

** Geometry ** - is used to design Three-diminsional objects

** Calculus** - is used to caluculate movement of any object in motion

If this is correct, then what is Trigometry used for in design application and what other types of math are used?

Trigonometry began as the computational component of geometry.

In truth you use Solidworks and ProE in conjunction with analysis software to develop a product a lot more than you use any specific mathematical discipline. The software will perform most of the math invisibly in real time, and it’s parametric so you can (ideally) modify features as development progresses.
