I run a wee business that requires people to send me stuff with their Private Health Information (PHI). I don’t want that information online, so I’ve always insisted it be mailed in hard copy form.
I could live without Saturday delivery but I’d rather not. Our tiny post office is already closed on that day, but at least the mail still comes.
Or the USPS shifts to being largely taxpayer funded so that it’s a service that actually works for it’s citizens instead of advertisers.
Not sure how, 1st class mail and magazines aka periodicals, the volume has cratered. One problem they have is decades ago they lost considerable parcel delivery to FedEx and UPS. Now they are trying to claw some of that back. That’s why now you’ll see USPS making Amazon deliveries on Sundays. The 1st class letter mail, magazines, that stuff isn’t coming back, it’s just going to decline further. Selling stuff on eBay, the post office is competitive for small parcels, under a couple pounds.
One thing the junk mail does, it causes a lot of overtime to be paid out. A good snowstorm or two, and direct marketing hit every house junk mail, this screws things up for a LONG time.
3 days a week would be fine with me. Monday, Wednesday, Friday. We don’t need package delivery 7 days a week either. They even deliver on holidays.
