Do women like Mad Men?

Virtually the only thing I’ve ever heard about this show is how hot guys find one of the actresses. Is this a “guy show” like Burn Notice and Sons of Anarchy with a mostly male audience, or are there a lot of women (here) who enjoy it too?

Seriously? You’ve never heard women discuss Jon Hamm? I kind of envy you.

My wife likes it a lot. The only scene that she took issue with was when Roger tells Joan that she is “the finest piece of ass I’ve ever had. I really mean it.” Got her feminist hackles up, it did.

pepperlandgirl loves Mad men so much it makes me fear for her eternal soul.

I’m a woman and I love it. It’s not a guy or a girl show.

Why don’t just you go through the weekly theads on the show and see for yourself how much women like it?

Definitely not a guy show. It’s quite feminist actually.

Both the wife and I watch it and love it. It’s very plot oriented so I’d almost guess it’d appeal slightly more to women just because it lacks many male-enticing explosions, fisticuffs and gun fights.

What, and kill the hamsters? In all seriousness, I wouldn’t want to accidentally read spoilers since my curiousity stems from wondering if I’d like the show myself if I caught up.

I’m a dude. I love Mad men so much it makes me fear for my eternal soul.

In some ways, Mad Men is a sociological study of changing attitudes about the sexes, the races, child rearing & sexual orientation–beginning just as the 60’s began. In other ways, it’s an intelligent soap opera with lashings of highly inappropriate humor. The art direction–costumes, set design & music–is worth detailed study to appreciate how it evokes the period.

John Hamm is a major hottie; he plays Don Draper, a fascinating character but possibly not good relationship material. John Slattery, the silver fox, plays a definite scamp with a seductive sense of humor. January Jones plays a perfect ice princess whom some of us dislike intensely. And everybody is in love with Christine Hendricks.

Season 4 begins July 25th. A very wide variety of us will be tuning in.

I don’t even know any men who like the show. Critics really love it, and of course it has it’s fans.

Well, not everybody. I prefer Elisabeth Moss, though Hendricks’s charms are not lost on me.

I only know one person who watches it, and she’s a woman.

Speaking of which, anyone know when the new season begins?

Up a couple posts:

And they’re running seasons 1-3 on on-demand now. Season two starts on (I think) 6/21.

I’m a woman and I don’t like it but I don’t think it’s because I’m a woman. I just thought it was boring.

I mean, I liked the (mostly) guy-centric Sopranos so I don’t think it’s really a gender thing with me.

I am a gal who loves me some Mad Men.

I only got into it after my sister told me it was her favorite TV show.
