Do women still wear girdles?

It’s female headgear, such as the stretchy cap used by married orthodox Jewish women to cover their hair.

Ok, I’ve seen those. I just never knew what they were called. Thanks!

This is wierd, I was just looking for a corset online before I came here and saw this thread. I have issues with body shapers I find they don’t stay up and I don’t like the body suits. A corset would be perfect if I could find one that isn’t a custome made $400 one.

Once a girlfriend and I swaped bras in a bar without anyone seeing much of anything by using the old bra out the shirt sleeve trick. Getting the bra back IN the shirt sleeve was much harder.

Ummm… any particular reason you did this? Just curious.

Titillation?

When I was living in college dorms, that was common practice. You’d get back from work/class/studying, sit down in the shared den (1 floor, 52 women, 1 den w/ TV), and slip off your bra. The place was too public to go topless, but otherwise darn informal.

One of these days I’ll have to wear shorts and really stretchy underwear so I can pull off my undershorts in front of my wife without taking off my pants.

I’ll buy you lunch if you supply me with a video of the event.

Because I can.

Works for me.

Nope, not it all. In fact, I just did it right now.

Yeah, I do the bra trick almost every day when I get home. I plan on doing it within the hour, in fact.

I’ve done it at work, in crowded bars, on the school bus, at family functions…when the underwires start digging in, that baby is coming off, and I don’t care who sees.

Here’s a corset pattern generator (scroll down), if you know any seamstresses; just plug in your measurements. Google brings up a few similar sites. A friend and I used it to obtain corset patterns for our RenFest costumes.

Frederick’s of Hollywood just put out a new line of corsets that are worth a little more than the 60 bucks they charge. For an off the rack piece of equipment, they’re pretty damn nice. GREAT fabric, mediocre boning. they will be especially helpful if you aren’t terribly lumpy to begin with. I’m pretty lumpy, and I wore one last saturday night with no serious problems.

I sure in the HELL like my $400 dollar jobbies, better though. I’m spoiled like that.

This pettern, however, is for an Elizabethian corset, which is designed to make you flat and tubular shaped. The ideal is a straight line from bust to hip, not what women today are looking for.

If you’re going historic, then Edwardian corsets, with their hourglass shapes, are closer to the “natural” look in vogue today. This pattern by Laughing Moon is my favorite by far. I made my first Edwardian corset in an afternoon, and it’s the most comfortable undergarment I’ve ever worn.

I, too, do the bra out the sleeve trick. Though like Aunt Bodoni, I pull the bra through the front of the neck of my top when I’m done.

At 71 I am probably older than most of you so maybe my answer will seem a little trite. I was 12 when I got my first girdle and by 13 I was wearing one everyday. I have been through a lot of changes in ladies under fashions but one has remained constant throughout my life, a girdle. I know they are called shapers today and some are only really smoothers at best. I still wear an old fashioned girdle everyday. My husband appreciates and believe me after having 5 daughters this old body needs it.

Just to note that this thread is nine years old.

bulging zombie or no

women have finally accepted gravity.
