Do you agree with Starving Artist in the Joe Paterno Pit thread?

There’s an 11 month old thread currently ongoing in the BBQ Pit titled It’s time to officially Pit Joe Paterno and the Penn State football program

In it, Starving Artist has spent, at current count, 560 replies discussing the case and the facts surrounding them. Now, I’m not asking you to have read all 4,816 comments to participate in this poll. But I’d highly recommend it as it’s fun!
What I am asking is for you to have read some of it and have a passing familiarity with Starving Artist’s arguments, which is why I won’t be summarizing them here.

SA has stated that it’s 20 to 1 against him in the thread, but that there are other members who do support him but haven’t spoken up yet. So I’ve created an anonymous poll for participation!

Note: Since I can’t post polls in the BBQ Pit, it’ll have to go here. But I’m making a concious effort to not be inflamatory in my explanation of the thread in question and would ask for others to do the same in their replies.

Most assuredly not. Specifically, I don’t agree that:

  1. It is physically impossible for a very tall man to engage in penetrative anal sex with a relatively short boy;

  2. That the actual jury findings in the Jerry Sandusky case in any way supported the contention described in #1.

As a bonus, I also don’t agree that Joe Paterno was unaware of what was happening at Penn State.

That thread’s eleven months old? Better keep it away from Sandusky, then.

Sorry that I can’t vote. How would I know if I agree or disagree if I haven’t read the thread?

Regards,
Shodan

I thought about creating those poll results. But to do so would mean you have no knowledge of the arguments and I, therefore, would have to summarize them for you. I didn’t want to do that because my rendition may bias the results. And, also because…yeah…I didn’t want to do that.

So I’d suggest going to read the thread and seeing for yourself where you stand on the issue!

I suggest using the restroom first.

“Participate,” I believe, is the operable word. Surely there are many at the boards who have read (at least part of) that thread without having posted in it.

I suppose adding an option for people who’ve neither read the thread nor formed an opinion might have been worthwhile.

Predictably there are a couple of errors in the OP. When I said there are twenty or so people against me in the thread, I was speaking of it currently. The OP makes it sound like I’m claiming only twenty people have disagreed with me in total.

Additionally, to the best of my recollection I haven’t said there are other posters who “support” me. What I’ve said is that among the board in general, my contention that what McQueary saw was not actually rape, and the paper towel tube test I contrived as a way of trying to get these people to look at the facts, was not an unreasonable way to try to ascertain the likelihood of whether it had been possible a man of Jerry Sandusky’s age and height could have been engaging in rape in the position described by Mike McQueary.

As I’ve been saying in the Paterno thread, I’m not concerned with whether or not people agree with me. What I’m concerned about is being right, and, given that absolutely no evidence has emerged to prove Joe Paterno guilty of even a fraction of the offenses he was accused of early in the thread, and the Sandusky jury has found that Mike McQueary’s testimony is not persuasive to a conclusion of rape, it appears I am. And so as long as I feel the position I’ve taken is the true, correct and honest one, it doesn’t matter to me if I’m the only one in ten thousand who’s happy about it, so I don’t know what the OP hopes to acheive with his poll. It certainly isn’t going to change my mind.

It’s certainly an odd hill to choose to die on.

“The lurkers support me in e-mail” – a sure sign he’s losing the argument.

I’m going to close this and here’s why: Because if you (or anyone else) has a beef with Starving Artist, you are free to pit him. This sort of topic has too much potential to turn into a pile on…in fact, I’d even consider it a subtle form of piling on already.
If you wish to remake this topic in the Pit, feel free. You don’t need to have a poll to get your answer.
