Do you believe in a God , or God(s)? Please participate!

I’m an atheist for the same reason I’m an American - I bow to no tyrants.

(And, also, I find no logical reason for doing so and no one to my knowledge has yet come up with an argument for the existence of a deity that isn’t easy to rip to shreds.)

But what if there were a super friendly, cheerful, good God that gave gifts and sang songs and made whoopee? Not a tyrant, but, like, the best possible big friendly pal. Wouldn’t that be the coolest? Like “Clifford the Big Red Dog” of Gods! Elbereth or Athena.

There, of course, you have me. It’s easy to describe the idea of a God that is worth having as a friend, but, as most writers will tell you, ideas are cheap. Evidence, alas, seems to be lacking.

Ten years ago, I’d have told you that I didn’t believe in God. I was an atheist. But, I had a very personal epiphany that began a few years ago and now there is no doubt in my mind that God exists. I’m not a religious person and I don’t go around trying to convert people. If a friend or family member doesn’t believe, that’s cool… and if they believe, that’s cool too. I believe though…

You were born in a geographical area called Atheistland?

Atheist but it kinda annoys me to even have to clarify that. I don’t have to give myself a description to show I don’t believe in other fictiona characters. Just because lots of people have believed this crap or other crap like it for a very l;ong time doesn’t give it any more weight IMO.

You don’t have to be able to prove there isn’t in order to be an atheist. If you do not believe in god(s), then I’m unsure of why you wouldn’t classify yourself as atheist.

I refer to myself as Wiccan to make it easy to explain. Not exactly polytheist, but that’s close. My patron goddess is Aphrodite, patron god is Herne the Hunter. I choose deities for ritual based on their attributes, but believe they’re all forms of the Mother Goddess and Father God.

I’m basically a Pantheist. If there is a supreme being, that individual must be way too busy keeping the universe in order rather than pay attention to us puny humans.

Correction: I should have written Atheopia.

I voted Deist, since I don’t believe the tales of any religion to be true, although I suppose some of the vaguer mystical ones may be on to something. But they basically sound like fairy tales to me. However, I do think that there is one miracle that we know to be true - the fact that anything exists at all. That fact is so astonishing that I find it impossible to be an atheist. Something is going on, I’m just not sure what.

Me too. I voted agnostic, but apatheism more accurately describes my viewpoint.

They say that there are none so devout as the newly converted, so even though I only heard of apatheism 5 minutes ago I’m going to go ahead and declare myself the founder of the “Meh” sect of apatheism.

The rest of you apatheists are heretics. You should have chosen Mehhism like me. Hope y’all like fire.
