Do you callus?

I spent years in the boy scouts, army and various other pursuits that would put calluses on most people, however my skin is as soft and smooth as my 1 year old baby son’s. Does anyone else have skin like this?

I spent my entire life as a truck mechanic and the past 20 years using nothing but hand tools for woodworking. I have no callous on my hands at all. My hands appear soft but they have to be tough considering what I put them through. The past two years I have cut down on my work considerably but prior to that pretty much 12 hours a day working with my hands.

Mine isn’t that soft but I never got the kinds of calluses I would expect. My wife has much heavier ones on her feet than I could ever grow and she basically has always sat for a living. I do get something slightly more annoying; callus on/of the bone/a thickening of the bone in certain places; along the inside of my thumb for example from shooting. It doesn’t hurt so I’ve never had anything done about it but it does get some strange looks when I have to have an x-ray for an unrelated reason.

I callus quite readily. Most are on my feet, as I work on my feet all day. But I have light callusing on the left side of my right index finger. This is due to the crochet work I do, as at that point the thread or yarn is constantly slipping over the skin. I’m right handed, so I assume that if I was left handed the callusing would be on the right side of my left index finger.

I get them on my feet. I wear sandals 365 days/year.

The calluses aren’t a problem here in the tropics. But when I go to a desert climate, they crack, and bleed. It is very painful.

I suffer from heel-callus, and have to sand/grind myself down every so often.

When working, I try to wear gloves, to keep the maidenlike softness of my dainty hands.

The inside of my big toes get calluses that are the size of a postage stamp as 1/8 inch thick when I peel them off. No pain or raw skin.

I get callus on my hands from weightlifting.

I don’t callus, I peel.

My hands never callus, if I’m doing something would typically give one calluses (like playing the guitar dammit) my skin just starts to peel and is replaced by baby soft skin.

GF hate that I have softer hands than she does.

Of course, the down side is I can’t twist off beer caps with out the aid of a towel or something. I hate that!

Not super bad - I wear gloves when lifting, since I would rather not have gnarly, rough hands. My feet are remarkably smooth considering the combat boots 95% of the time.

Getting calluses on your fingertips is a right of passage for a guitar player. My fretting-hand fingertips when through phases over the years of looking pretty gnarly callus-wise, but now look “normal” but have very tough tips.

I have been playing less with a pick and more with the flesh of my fingertips, so now that hand is getting them, too. My picking thumb has a hard “corner” on it I can almost use like a flatpick for some runs.

I’ve got monster calluses from upright bass. Not on the left fingertips, but more on the pad. The right fingers aren’t quite so bad, but are very tough since I don’t use a bow much, but I play rockabilly slap an awful lot.

Occasionally they will peel, but it’s only new callus underneath. Best thing about thick calluses is that you can pick up hot things easier. Worst thing is the slight loss of sensation.

I don’t have any calluses that I’m aware of right now, but in the past, I"ve had them when I had pressure or rubbing somewhere- hands from weightlifting, and some rather ill-fitting shoes gave me some years ago.

But they eventually wear away if that rubbing/pressure isn’t constantly there.

I callus very quickly, I blister very quickly, and I lose calluses very quickly.I also heal very quickly but scar easily and manage to hurt myself often.

Therefore My feet, and to a lesser extent, my hands, skin is a post-apocalyptic plague ready mess of colors and textures.
