I’ll “tell you you’re not crazy” because I love them both, too. TSO has the edge, though. My life was not complete until I learned that you can headbang to “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”.
Is that the “Christmas Eve Sarajevo” song? I think that starts out with “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman”. It was the first song I ever heard by TSO and I was instantly hooked.
Yep! It’s the one that radio stations and music feeds play the most, so it’s most people’s intro to TSO.
Definitely loathsome. I am not Christian but I do enjoy Christmas music in its proper setting – carollers, christmas concerts, etc. You know, when the music is good. Piped-in crap you hear in stores… no thanks.
The only thing more completely heinous is “inclusionary” channukah songs. I am Jewish and O, how I hate them, let me count the ways. Channukah is NOT an important holiday, singing is NOT a part of the tradition, 98% of Jews who know anything about their heritage do not feel “left out” without ten billion muzaked versions of “Dredel, dreidel” being thrown at them.
I confess I generally like it, although some songs are intolerable.
As the season progresses, I get a little more irritable about the songs that aren’t my favorites. Right now, I’m wailing along in my car cheerfully with much of it, despite my lack of singing ability. You should hear me on O Holy Night! Or rather, you should thank your lucky stars you can’t!
