Well, I do. Chicken, liver, meat, only the best for my cats and dogs. Of course they also eat canned food, but I often feed 'em with something different from time to time. They seem to like it.
My girlfriend at work does. Of course, she also feeds them with spoons so they don’t get food in their beards. (they’re Shitz Hus {sp?})
We are a little concerned about Nancy.
Only if we’ve cooked a meal that we think he should be eating… for instance, a heavy on the fat British meal that would put him out in the yard in 10 minutes with the runs, is generally a no-no. But, steamed chicken and veggies, sure - he loves it.
Not specifically, but both my dogs love ANY kind of cooked veggies. So I’ll sometimes make extra helpings for the dogs.
I also cook way more rice than I’ll eat so they can have the leftovers.
And, of course they ALWAYS get to lick the plates clean.
A word of caution: NEVER, NEVER cooked bones of any kind, though! I had a dog that died because my neighbors fed him leftover chicken. A splinter of bone lodged in his intestine, got infected, and he died of systemic poisoning. He was a rottweiler, so he could easily crunch up the biggest bone into little shards.
I don’t (well, except for the plain spaghetti for the cockatiel [she loves it]), but a former co-worker cooked everything for her dog: damned meanest schnauzer you ever met. Chicken, prime rib, roast beef, veal, salmon, you name it, and hand-fed the beast with its own fork and bowl. And she was the only one who could feed it (it was a bit snappish to anyone else).
Well, I’m not proud of this, but I made my dog Christmas cookies yesterday. With bacon fat instead of butter and chicken broth instead of water. He likes them. But I probably won’t do it again until next Christmas.
Absolutely. She eats what we eat. And she normally gets a plate every night. Plus her “bacon bacon bacon - I smell BACON” strips, her bones, and her regular food.
But we’re going to be out of town for a few days - we have someone watching her and letting her out of course - but I’m worried she’ll be pining for us.
The only cooked food my dog gets is if I overcook something for myself. Or I make something and I think it tastes like crap, I let my dog have it to see if he shares the same opinion.
I’m supposed to cook for my dog, according to the contract with the breeder. Usually, I just give her a premium kibble (California Natural, Bil-Jac, etc), with chicken or raw ground beef every so often if she’s been good. I’ll also give her leftovers – most people food isn’t harmful to dogs.
My parents will cook a special meal for theirogs on Sunday -spaghetti. The dogs love it!
Ha! As if my cats would eat it!
They eat Iams “Less Active” formula most of the time, supplemented by a small can of Iams lamb n rice wet food if they haven’t broken anything for several days or we’ve returned from a trip.
They always INSIST on sniffing what we’re cooking, but rarely will they eat any. Every now and again a bit of fish or chicken, but only if they are in the mood.
Finicky. Harumph!
When I read the thread subject line, I missed the word “for”. Was ready to flame…
Not specifically, but I’ll give him cooked gizzards or livers, bites of steak, turkey at Thanksgiving. He’s already overweight, so I try not to give him too many “people food” treats. Sometimes I give him a bite of ice cream I “accidently” dropped on the floor. (Anything that falls on the kitchen floor is his, by rights!)
My dog used to hate bath-time until I started cooking her a special dinner afterward if she cooperates. It has worked amazingly. (She’ll actually jump into the tub now under her own steam, instead of forcing us to drag her into the bathroom and lift her into the tub.)
I make her spinach rice, which consists of a half a can of spinach, two cups of boiled rice, and a boullion cube with a splash of gravy-from-a-jar on top. She loves it.
My poor little pup has the runs; his previous owner told me that some rice might help, so I made some instant for him earlier today. He didn’t care for it too much, but he ate some.
What godawful messes he’s made the past two days…
Revtim, assuming your dog isn’t sick, have you switched dog food, or fed him/her anything with a lot of fat?
As for the OP, I cooked chicken, rice, and carrots for my oldest dog, for about 6 months. I was trying to see what he might be allergic too. It wasn’t the food, so now both dogs get premium kibble with half a can mixed in.
I used to be a buyer for a company that made (or actually, had made) mix for dog biscuits. No kidding. We sold the 7 or 8 flavors along with little bone or cat shaped cookie cutters. Sold like hotcakes.
Dire Wolf, I gave him some cooked eggs, I think that was the cause.
I try to avoid fat in my pets diet.
I only cook for my dogs when they are sick and not eating their regular food for whatever reason. I either make Mac and Chese or rice with cooked ground beef. They usually gobble it up and this keeps up thier energy when they get sick.
